American Military Posturing

For the life of me, I am not sure why the U.S. must announce everything we do militarily.

Why do we need to make videos, documentaries, and announce every time we do something?
Why do we need documentaries talking about our stealth bombers and fighters?
Why do we need to talk about our drone capabilities?
Why does every new piece of hardware need to be on the military channel?

I'm curious if other countries are consistently talking about their military assets and every little raid they go on (like the Navy Seals and Somali's) in this way for posturing? From everything I've seen about the cold war, for the most part Russia knew what we had via satellites and spies.

I guess now we just tell them everything we have to strike fear into the morrow of their Russian bones? I would think that part of the military advantage is that the other side does NOT know what all you have, how it works, the capabilities of those assets, etc.. I do not understand why we must have a press conference for every little thing, successful or not.

There's a lot of people who just like learning about those things...nothing political or anything about it, some just find it interesting. I remember back in school there was a teacher who had a guy from DARPA come in and talk to us and he talked to us about all these really cool things they were researching and coming up with.

Propaganda. It's been like that for eons. And yes, all countries of course do it... either to strike fear into their opponents or to give their own people a sense of security and/or patriotism.

maybe in the other countries the 'press' isn't against everything the government does and the military doesn't have to defend EVERY action taken????

To me there are two main reasons. The first is that it is propaganda of sorts to show the people what they are spending the trillions of dollars they are getting in tax dollars on. It also helps some people feel safe and believe that their government is there to protect them. The other reason is as a warning of sorts. It is a way to let other people know that if you fuck with us you will be enjoying the full wrath of all of these items.

^^ this

And it's also used as promotion for that industry. I don't even know how many new gun and military shows Discovery is airing, compared to several years ago. It's pretty obvious it's propaganda and promotion combined.

Cheaper than an air show and lets potential buyers know whats available. Since shit started crashing at air shows the liability insurance is just out of control.

Now Discovery runs a 30 minute infomercial and gets a 5% bump.

Hey footsie boy, how about you run for president?

Pornographers and starlets have run for office, I'm sure they can make room for someone who has a foot fetish.

Videos &documentaries of what? Did I miss those?

Why do we announce things such as the two raids this weekend? Because if we didn't everyone would wonder what our government is doing in secret.

If you think they announce everything we do you are greatly mistaken.. They have to release a reasonable amount of info, because we are a so called open society. We have troops doing things all over the world that you will likely never hear about. He'll we have guys in South America and it's known, but you never hear what they are doing if you yea anything at all..

Also the CIA is used for a lot of stuff you may or may not hear about, but we also have other groups that are like special forces but but not officially SF units and these groups are usually attached to other groups.. You will never know who or what they are or better yet, what they do.. To think our military announces every little thing is foolish.

Getting paid a nice bonus, above regular pay.

Believe it or not it can help save lives.

The Enemy you dont know is a LOT harder to fight. But the enemy you know that out guns you 100% is even harder to fight because of fear.

Because people are fascinated by the beauty of their weapons.

Rochard 10-07-2013 11:28 AM

It's really amazing that these people think they can hold out against the United States and it's military. Setting aside that we can attack them in any country they are in, we can hit them from the air with airplanes they cannot see or attack them with drones where the pilot is hundreds of miles away.

weapons, death, destruction ect. must be made to appear normal to the US public...the average american is completely ok with his country bombing the shit out of millions of people if it makes him feel a bit "safer"...its conditioning and brain wash just like in north korea...

lets be realistic about it: the russians know what you have, posturing or no posturing + they don't give a shit about attacking you and you know it...

its just the klingon empire showing off to the world what it will unleash on them next (except for russia and china who can turn the USA in to crystal as well so the US army &gov is a good little bitch and bullies only the small boys :winkwink: )

Right up until the grandkids stand up and refuse to foot the bill for you not living within your means as a country.

Neither Russia or China can transport their troops and equipment around the world as fast as the US can.. Added to that Russia has nothing like our B2 or stealth bombers. China at best has cheap untested version of stealth aircraft, but I'd bet it's not even past testing phases.

Simply put, we would have to go to them in order to make it a fair fight.. The only thing they could really match us with, is nuclear war.. However if that happens, everyone is fucked as there wouldn't be a winner.. The only notch up the Russians might of had, was under the USSR they had a secondary plan to bomb the US with biological weapons using anthrax to try and take out the survivors after a nuclear strike.
