Favorite Sci-Fi movies?
 

I'm a big fan of sci-fi. Let's take Star Wars and Star Trek off the table for this thread, though.

What are some of your favorite sci-fi movies?

I recently watched "After Earth" and didn't think it was too bad. I love sci-fi that incorporates time-travel.

gotta include Alien, Predator, Robocop, terminator, just to start.

5th Element, Starship Troopers, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Event Horizon (sci fi horror)

Fifth Element (If I come across it while channel surfing, I will watch it every single time it's on, no matter where it is in the movie. Its also the only appearance of Chris Tucker that's tolerable)

These pretty much covers it I think: 5th Element, Alien, Predator, Starship Troopers, Robocop, Forbidden planet, Event Horizon.

Probably more that I can't recall right now. Oh yea, the Riddick ones.

Yeah gotta agree. And good to see Starship Troopers in there

50's cheesy B movie sci-fi are some of my all time favs. Some good ones in the 60's too.

There was an animated sci-fi back in the early 70's titled Fantastic Planet that was great. I also liked Damnation alley, although a lot of people thought it too cheesy or some such nonesense.

The 80's had Blade Runner, They Live, Tron.

In more recent times Event Horizon, Serenity, Children of Men, Ghosts of Mars, Pandorum.

Recently watch Pacific Rim, it's really good.

Ghost in the shell and most of those already mentioned.

The Time Machine... both the old and new versions. Very good.

What about Planet of the Apes? The first one only, with Heston.

The Day The Earth Stood Still {1951} - the "new" version was so far off base from the original movie / story, it was good, but difficult to enjoy.

I grew up watching it a lot but my mom is a sci fi freak. So, maybe I was different from other Americans.

OMFG! Finally, someone else who liked that movie. I am forever being mocked by my husband's friends b/c I like that movie.

I'm not saying that only Brits have seen it, just that it was apparently a worldwide flop except for in the UK.
