Namecheap freezing a domain
By coincidence i noticed that namecheap froze one of my domains i have with them.
Contacted them and they told me they need to contact their upstream provider for this but it can take a while. Can't do anything with that particular domain (other domains on same account work fine) What the fuck could be wrong with a domain i own for 7 years now ? |

But that could just be the fact that I haven't slept yet :) |
I think they resell for Enom - You may want to try to contact them, it might hurry them up a bit...
|
it expires somewhere in 2015.

We are an ICANN accredited registrar. |
No, they been ICANN accredited for years, but are still just an enom reseller:

Your domain could be held for alot of reason, what type of content was on the domain ? I know the feds watch this board like hawks .

It has Porn on it (for 7 years now) No trademark domain or anything else. Tube like site with sponsor content and submitted content. No illegal stuff or underage shit. Can somebody make a simple complaint and have namecheap just putting the domain on hold ? |

So pornhub and all the other MASSIVE tubes are frozen are they? |
Sometimes registers put a freeze on a domain because someone filed a UDRP complaint with ICANN.

Namecheap support said they were onto this case to figure out whats wrong.
The domain has been released right now and i can do anything i want with it, but still no answer from namecheap why in the first place they just freeze my domain. |
Thank you for your email. Additional lock was put on your domain name as a preventive measure from our side. We've noticed a suspicious activity on an account with username similar to yours and locked the domain name for security reasons.
This is not something you can expect happening on a regular basis, still we felt it was a necessary measure to prevent any malicious activity. We apologize for not informing you about this measure and for any inconvenience this might have caused. We will make sure this is noted for future in case anything similar is required. Security of our clients is our highest priority and we will continue doing our best to be proactive in this area. Please rest assured that we've completed the necessary checks and your account as well as domain names are safe and secure. Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns. |

It was not down, but frozen, which means i could not edit or move the site at that point + whoisguard subscription was removed either and all whois info replaced by namecheap info including contact/mail address etc. Basicly if they would not lift the "freeze" i could loose the domain whenever i needed to renew and could'nt..
It's still strange, why the hell are you playing with an important domain of mine? What i understand from their reply is that anytime when "John" logs into his account, anyone else with an account that goes by username "John1" gets his account frozen ? :1orglaugh "Thank you for your email. Additional lock was put on your domain name as a preventive measure from our side. We've noticed a suspicious activity on an account with username similar to yours and locked the domain name for security reasons." Why would you freeze MY DOMAIN? Because somebody with a similar account name has some suspicious activity going on? What does that have to do with MY account and MY domain ? |

This is normally a pretty serious action, mostly when there is a big complaint or UDRP or goverment issue. Quote:
Anyway, we're fine now. |
domain freeze sounds like a serious issue
