Namecheap freezing a domain

By coincidence i noticed that namecheap froze one of my domains i have with them.
Contacted them and they told me they need to contact their upstream provider for this but it can take a while.
Can't do anything with that particular domain (other domains on same account work fine)

What the fuck could be wrong with a domain i own for 7 years now ?

Is it getting ready to expire? Not that that in and of itself would cause a freeze, but the conspiracy theorist in me is thinking, "if I had an in w/ a registrar and saw a domain I really wanted and I could sweet talk someone @ the registrar to freeze the domain until it expired then it would be up for grabs..."

But that could just be the fact that I haven't slept yet :)

I think they resell for Enom - You may want to try to contact them, it might hurry them up a bit...

MKA 10-15-2013 04:03 AM

it expires somewhere in 2015.

They were, but they are no longer a resseler.Take a look at their footer which says :
We are an ICANN accredited registrar.

shimmy 10-15-2013 06:16 AM

No, they been ICANN accredited for years, but are still just an enom reseller:

I live in europe, however the server is in the usa.
It has Porn on it (for 7 years now)
No trademark domain or anything else.
Tube like site with sponsor content and submitted content. No illegal stuff or underage shit.

Can somebody make a simple complaint and have namecheap just putting the domain on hold ?

OneHungLo 10-15-2013 07:04 PM

Sometimes registers put a freeze on a domain because someone filed a UDRP complaint with ICANN.

Namecheap support said they were onto this case to figure out whats wrong.

The domain has been released right now and i can do anything i want with it, but still no answer from namecheap why in the first place they just freeze my domain.

Seriously? This explanation sound...retarted.For how long domain was down?

MKA 10-23-2013 04:33 PM

It was not down, but frozen, which means i could not edit or move the site at that point + whoisguard subscription was removed either and all whois info replaced by namecheap info including contact/mail address etc. Basicly if they would not lift the "freeze" i could loose the domain whenever i needed to renew and could'nt..

It's still strange, why the hell are you playing with an important domain of mine?

What i understand from their reply is that anytime when "John" logs into his account, anyone else with an account that goes by username "John1" gets his account frozen ? :1orglaugh

Why would you freeze MY DOMAIN? Because somebody with a similar account name has some suspicious activity going on? What does that have to do with MY account and MY domain ?

Dude, you should pay attention to details,as word "freeze" means how your domain would be totally unaccessible,a better word would be "limited".As if there would be a problem with content on site then domain would be unaccessible. While their action sound a bit stupid it's ok as there was no real damage done.

"the domain is (was) on registrar freeze"..
This is normally a pretty serious action, mostly when there is a big complaint or UDRP or goverment issue.
