Humans can develop addictions to anything or behavior. An addiction is a compulsive desire or perceived need to do something over and over regardless of the consequences that result from that action. These results can be positive or negative.

The problems that many have with addictions is labeling the action as "addictive behavior" when the results are neutral or positive since those are overtly perceived as undesirable. What the outside observer does not understand is that the behavior is still causing problems for the individual for example; while someone might gamble and win money they may call in sick to work to pursue the behavior. Someone might eat food to the point of obesity. Another person might be in a long-term relationship yet feel the need to have sex with someone other than the partner without the partners knowledge thus exposing them to the potential of stds.

Most would not understand how on the outside looking in that someone who wins money, has all the money the need for food, or is having a lot of sex could be addictions and for some they would NOT be...but for others, depending on the circumstances they most certainly ARE.
