The Rev. Al Sharpton threatened Saturday to boycott luxury retailer Barneys if the department store doesn't respond adequately to allegations by black shoppers that they were racially profiled there.

My point was that africans usually call racism or profiling even when there was none. White people do not do that.
For example people can be profiled because they look dodgy or suspicious. Not because of color. But if its black they can freely call color anyways.

Thats kinda funny. Actually its true. Major retailers like this have every inch of the floor under surveillance and watch everyone like a casino, not to mention all the plain clothes loss prevention people pretending to be shoppers walking around. They aren't exactly in the habit of following around people who aren't doing shit, don't look suspicious and who are just innocent shoppers. Additionally, they don't just randomly accuse people of theft without significant proof to back it up... as it leads to an instant Defamation of Character legal claim.

To believe that their loss prevention teams just randomly targeted innocent people and accused them of theft for absolutely no reason whatsoever (risking immediate legal claims) other than skin color is pretty ignorant.

These people were detained for buying something with a credit card; not shoplifting.

How was it determined that their credit card purchases were suspect and they needed to be detain by the police?

Tell us how that works and that will solved the issue.

That said, racial profiling still exists all over this country. A very good friend of mine is black. She is married to a white guy. About 6 months ago they moved to a small town (about 5,000 people). She got pulled over multiple times by the police the first month they lived there. It was always for stupid shit and she was never ticketed. She was pulled over because she was black.

Eventually her husband called and talked to the police chief. He asked if it would make their lives easier if they just brought down some pictures of her and had her take a lie detector test so all the police in town could relax and realize the new black wasn't a bad person and leave her alone. Of course the chief denied that anything was going on, but magically she has never been stopped since.

And why not? Backs are 15% of our population. 65% of prison population.

So does this mean that all black people are criminals? I would argue that much of it is a racial bias. According to the WSJ black men are typically given prison sentences that are 20% longer than white men.

According the the ABC news black men make up 35.4% of the prison population with white men making up 32.9% and Hispanics making up 17.9% so it looks like your 65% number might be a little off.

Here is some interesting information based on a few different states. In one of the studies they found that one out of every 33 black men charged with a crime ends up in prison while one out of every 205 white people charged end up in prison. A more interesting state is lower down on the page where they show the percentage of the population that is three strikes offenders. 44.7% of black inmates are there on their third strike while only 25.4% of white inmates are. It seems like what we have is a smaller group of black criminals that continue to re-offend over and over again while white people are more likely to get out and stay out.

Ultimately, I know you don't care about any of this. You have made up your mind, but to me it seems like the system might be slanted more heavily against black people. I'm not saying they don't commit crimes, but it seems like if you are black and commit a crime the odds are you are going to jail where if you are white the odds are in your favor that you won't.
