What would cause a monitor to flicker?

I have the monitor and video card listed below. When I turn the monitor up to the highest resolution (2560x1440), the monitor will flicker, but it works fine at other resolutions. I'm running it through a DVI cable. I just ordered a mHDMI cable to try that next. Could the flickering be a bad video card? Bad monitor? Both are brand-new. So is the DVI.

Your problem likely has to do with your video card's power management features. What it's doing is downclocking your GPU's memory when it isn't under load. With the AMD cards under some driver revisions, they clock the memory too low in low power mode, and that causes flickering.
