Why is resale so low on Cadillacs?
You can pick up a 2000-2002 Seville STS for a couple of grand in most areas.. That is a lot of car for two dimes. It looks sexy like a naked woman, 28mpg and 300hp all at the same time, engine and transmission are MADE to abuse- they just don't give a FUCK. You can drive the fucking jesus out of them and christ will appear before they will break. Half the time a mechanic goes out and drives the hell out of the car to FIX it for old people.
http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1734/yq4.gif Sure the northstar had issues with the head gaskets, but other than that they're amazing cars. As far as I know, the head bolts in '00 and up are twice as long- and most head gasket issues with any of them come from not changing the coolant "ever" or using the wrong shit. |
I have one as an around-town car. My Northstar always makes my wary, but the car is only worth $10k tops, so if it breaks, I'll scrap it.
I think they don't retain value because A) they aren't that expensive to begin with, B) they're fucking GMs, and C) they're somewhat expensive to maintain if you don't do it yourself. My spark plugs alone are ridiculous, even when I buy 'em and put 'em in myself. Same with BMWs. You can get a 2004 BMW 745li from $7,500 for a beater to $15,000 for a nice one. For a car that sells for $95k now, that's a lot of car for a very little bit of money .. but they're made like shit, expensive to maintain, terrible on gas and tend to have a LOT of problems. The price reflects that. |
Very few vehicles that are 12 years old + hold their value well these days, other than something like diesel 4wd trucks.

Try a Honda... I think they have the best resale value. :-)
|
Look at a list of fastest depreciating cars and it always has MB and Cadillacs on there.
|
maybe its cause cadillacs buyers are all dropping dead.

|
Huge money pits that always seem to break down a lot

Well, that is true, honda resale is extremely good. I had a guy try to buy my 1993 Accord for $3000 with 200k on it even though I told him the axles were so bad they were about to fall off and the brakes weren't working. I've heard that Honda even gets its own lane at some dealer auction sale things.
I had a northstar cadillac and if it survived me, no one can break one. I drove the good christ walking out of that car ad never had a problem.. I guess they DO have a bad reputation, the northstars. That is too bad :( You're right, too, it's not one of those cars you can just wander into a mechanic's shop with asking them to fix things. I did shit myself, like cleaning those damned phenolic spacer things and changing the plugs and the injectors myself, saved a mint doing that. |

I like the older 1980s cars; I think I want an old Smokey And The Bandit Trans Am or a Firebird. Buy it cheap, put some paint on it, fix it up a bit.... Presto, good clean fun. |
Bc. it's not a JAP care!
|
just my opinion...created from working a driving job last year.
that 80s cars are too spartan; current cars have too much tech. cars from the 90s have the perfect balance between simplicity & tech. like the last air cooled 911s. |
jesus man if you think thats a nice car i dont know what to tell you. upscale cars generally dont have that much abs plastic on the interior. btw i think most caddys are made in sweden alongside volvos so you cant really call them a typical gm product

Yeah, buying new is almost always a waste of money.. I guess some people get tax bennies for it, but it's still wrong if you ask me. Unless you just have so much that it doesn't affect anything. I don't even think new cars are good for one's health. |

I had a 2000 for about 5 years. Back then. Thing went down hill fast about 75k miles. Broke the engine mounts a few times. Air stopped working. Head gasket issues. Thing leaked ton of oil. It was AWESOME before that |
Cadilac's look like shit even when their still on the designing board
|
I think their resale value goes down because once they are 10 years old, it then becomes a gangsta mobile and no one really wants to look like that do they? ha ha ha ha ha

All cars loose values as soon as you drive them off the lot.
