Congrats to Democrats. You're fucking crushing it with health care. Figures just released!

Day one... total people successfully enrolled in Obama Care....

6 people.

By the end of day 2... 248 total people.

"The health care exchanges need to average 39,000 enrollees a day to meet the goal of seven million by March 1"

Just 300,000,000 more to go!!

Congrats to the winners....

Minte 10-31-2013 06:22 PM

It should only take about 400 years to get everyone enrolled at this rate. :)

Canadian company won the bid to make the website for 96 million and ran it up to 246 million. Whats with this shit about democrats? You mean Canadians. You're welcome as always, gentlemen. :)

The total cost of the site alone is now over $650,000,000.00 USD and obviously climbing by the day.

ACA is just the latest scam being played on the American middle and working classes.

Anyone placing bets on when the riots start?

IF 60,000 people signed up (and that's a huge IF) then it cost us $11,000 per person for this website that is being redone.

Just 300,000,000 more to go!!

Is that some of that Republican fuzzy math I heard about yrs ago? So to reach a goal of 7 million total, 300 million more people need to sign up. Those numbers totally make sense...

is that some more fuzzy, disingenuous liberal thinking that turns a simple tongue in cheek statement clearly not meant to be taken literally into a "cited fact" to be disputed and argued in a weak attempt to deflect attention away from an embarrassing failure?

Yes, its' all the fault of the company in canada that dragged their feet and drove up costs, has nothing to do with the guys signing the checks...

I don't think it was that the "dragged their feet".... I think it was more a problem of having to deal with 50 incompetent state governments to tie it all together, coupled with the fact that they are going to get paid obscene amounts of money no matter what happens. I don't think there were any performance based incentives, benchmarks required etc in the contract to fully bind them to a schedule and costs.

There is no question however (as was testified before Congress), that it was well known to have not been anywhere near ready and basically untested at launch time. I would guess again, that is the problem with making it political.

That said, spending that much money on a website is insane and then trying to launch it knowing the stakes without having a functioning site, having the user experience be so impossibly stupid and backwards by any measure and a perfect example of why government should not be deeply involved in or managing peoples own important life decisions.

its common knowledge that the feds spend money like spoiled trust fund children. when you appropriate funds to the tune of several trillion per year, & when your life is ensconced in wealth, & lobbyists are constantly begging to hand you six figures to support their cause...its easy to lose track of a billion here, a billion there...

Canadian owned company yes, but it has a large US division run and staffed by Americans. One such American is Toni McCall Townes-Whitley who runs the division that was awarded the contract and who also just happens to be good friends with Michelle Obama.

Michelle's Princeton Classmate Spent Christmas 2010 at the White House

Quote:

Townes-Whitley joined CGI just seven months before they received a no bid contract for Obamacare. Not only was it a no bid contract, other bids were never even opened. No one else was ever considered for the job.

Townes-Whitley, Princeton class of ?85, leads CGI Federal?s Civilian Agency Programs (CAP) Business Unit, which coincidentally is the division that received the contract from the Obama administration. CGI was one of 16 companies approved for tech contracts under George Bush.

“FACT: Nothing in #Obamacare forces people out of their health plans. No change is required unless insurance companies change existing plans.”

– tweet by Obama aide Valerie Jarrett, Oct. 28, 2013, after NBC News airs a report that the Obama administration knew “millions” could not keep their health insurance.

Many readers have asked us to step back into time and review these statements by the president now that it appears that as many as 2 million people may need to get a new insurance plan as the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, goes into effect in 2014. As we were considering those requests, one of the president’s most senior advisers then tweeted a statement on the same issue that cried out for fact checking.

I knew this shit was going to happen.

I saw that Obama is still saying we can keep our policies? Did he ever talk to the insurance companies about this?

TheSquealer 11-01-2013 10:45 AM

It's not "2,000,000 people" that will lose their health care plans. It's the vast majority of insured Americans - that info was also just discovered to have been known by the administration at least in 2010 and was found in the federal register. The guy still, as always doesn't back down or accept responsibility for anything at all and that is why his supprt and poll numbers continue to plummet.

You complain a lot.

Yes, if your insurance fails to meet the basic requirements, you will have to upgrade. Oh my god that's horrible.

No. First and foremost; the Affordable Care Act was sold on lies. That is fact. Secondly, they were known to be lies and how he was re-elected. Also fact. People were told they would be able to keep their plans and their doctors. Now, not only are millions being dropped from their plans THEY WANT and chose, they are being forced into coverage they don't want and at a much greater cost in most cases.

It's not "better coverage" it's retarded requirements like forcing a 62yr old grandmother to pay for maternity care among other idiotic items she will not only never need, but that wasn't previously paying for.

Not that simple..

Basic requirements are to add like Pregnancy coverage for Every Female. Even 50+ year olds. Thus, when a Policy changes even one little bit, it can NOT be grandfathered in, and then most policies offered

LOT higher and LESS Coverage.

Basic requirements are not the same as "If you like it you can keep it"

A canadian said this -

"I moved to Canada from the states thirteen years ago. THANK GOD! This whole discussion is bizarre to me now. A bunch of hapless liberals defending a program that shovels money to the corrupt insurance and pharmaceutical industries, debating a bunch of mean spirited right wingers who think they are conservatives but aren't, who believe no one should get anything at all that they can't grab with their own greedy hands."

I love the part about the liberals who don't realize that this is simply forcing people to pay insurance companies and drug companies. They were the biggest donors to Elizabeth Warren's campaign. They WANT this because it makes them even richer. Somehow liberals imagine this is free universal healthcare. Unreal. Repubs, same as always, "God wants me to be poor unless he magics me rich so I can spend 5 trillion on unjustified wars". Take off your sports jerseys and think.

My wife is fifty, and still on birth control. We still fuck. And she can still have a baby. Sounds like a good idea to ensure her health coverage includes pregnancy. You know, "just in case".

There are plans out there that do not cover hospital stays. That's not a healthcare plan, that's a joke.

We need healthcare fixed. The Republican Party has made it clear it is no longer interested in serving the people, and the Republican Party has made it perfectly clear that all they intend to do is sit in the corner and cry.

Once again, you aren't required to have auto insurance to have a drivers license. If you have an auto you are required to have LIABILITY which protects other people and their property NOT you and yours.

Not in Massachusetts where I lived most of my life. You can't get a registration for your car without proof of insurance. Not just liability on others, you have to have personal insurance too

Sorry no state can require you to carry full coverage. Loan companies can require it but that's to protect them not you.

Required coverages (types) for Massachusetts auto insurance, and the required minimum limits (dollar amounts) for each coverage.

Required Coverage

Required Minimum Limit
Bodily Injury to
Others $20,000 per person;
$40,000 per accident
Personal Injury
Protection (PIP) $8,000 per person, per accident
Bodily Injury Caused
by an Uninsured Auto $20,000 per person;
$40,000 per accident
Damage to Someone
Else's Property $5,000 per accident

Ok maybe I was wrong, I just remember I had to buy auto insurance every year and it wasnt cheap, its not like its $30/month, more like $150/month +

but anyways, its IS required to get. so why is that ok?

It is required to protect others from you not to protect you. Do you not see the difference? Comparing the two is like saying you are required to have VD insurance to have sex.

Uhmm... because its not ok for you to hit someone, cause 100k in medical bills and destroy their vehicle and not be financially responsible for it?

Isn't that obvious?

All I know is this is only helping a hanfull of people at a VERy HIGH Price.
Hurting Millions, and when the waivers end in a year or 2, Millions more will be hurt.
Multiple of Millions insurance is going up with LESS coverage, and
STILL MILLIONS will be without insurance.

You miss the point with mute one Wife situation.
Point is it was BS that you can Keep your plan when they knew almost ALL plans would have to change.

They shoved this down Americas throat on the Bleeding hearts of Millions are uninsured, not that people could get cheaper. While I am for the cheaper, many do not understand that they are less covered. Friend of mine says his is going down $150 a month. He is also going form 90% covered to 70%.. One big bill and that $150 is Gone.

It is a Fking Scam, and now it is being seen as such even more every day.
Many of the people signing up are for the FREE stuff. Millions WONT be able to signup due to to low of income. Millions being dropped, thus to only have to get More expensive plans, and can't wait to see this bleed out when the waivers run out..

The Millions / Billions spent could of paid the health care for those people and not went to an insurance companies pocket.
It changes nothing in my state, as ANYONE could always go to the ER if you needed to.
Well ok, I can't say nothing as a few who Already HAD Insurance Might get it cheaper, but on the Tax payers back....

So we are still paying for the Super Low Income and now the Low income with tax give backs, on the backs of millions of middle class who were barely getting by. I guess it is job security to drop them down a level for the Dem's

Joshua G 11-02-2013 09:08 PM

i wish the right wing would realize that healthcare is incapable of being a free market commodity. health insurers & pharma are some of the most profitable corporations of any industry. & its so profitable for the same reason oil is so profitable; everybody needs it, & not many companies can supply it. everything about health care tends towards monopoly.

& the morality of "profits vs providing care" business model of insurers is simply unworkable.

but liberal democrats do nothing but force the public to pay out the price gouging rates, but if you cant afford the gouging the government will pay the difference. Real bright idea.

I couldn't disagree more. Everyone I know is being affected positively by the Healthcare Act. I have one friend who works for the government that makes less money each year because her cost of living wages fail to match the increase in healthcare, and another friend who will finally be able to change healthcare plans because pre-existing conditions will longer be a problem.

Saying this will "cost more" is stupid - It is going to cost more NO MATTER WHAT. We can do nothing and it will still cost more.

Not all plans are going to change. But some of them aren't really even healthcare plans at all. A healthcare plan that fails to cover hospital visits isn't a healthcare plan at all. The law is going to require some healthcare plans to change and offer up basic minimums. There will be some changes.

This wasn't "shoved down anyone's throat". It passed Congress. It passed the Supreme Court. You can't say it was shoved down your throat because if you can, you can saw that about all laws.

We need to fix healthcare, not sit in a corner and cry about it.

Millions aren't being dropped. They are being forced to change, which is why the law exists. Fuck, in some states we have 90% of the people insured. We are trying make this the national average, and make it higher.

But the "middle class" is barely getting by because one third of their income is going to healthcare. One third of your income is supposed to be paying your mortgage and should be by far your biggest expense. When health insurance for a family of five, with two of them having prior conditiations, you are totally fucked.

Thank goodness we have a National Health Service in the UK. Free at the point of use paid by everyone through taxation.

Human beings live together and therefore it is the health of the herd that is important. To keep everyone healthy safeguards us all.

Good health slows infections and prevents disease.

So even the rich bastards benefit from keeping the poor healthy.

ACA cost me my doctor and I'm still uninsured.

My family doctor of more than a decade retired to only do research with all of this. Appeared to be less headache than re-training his staff or getting a new staff.

Doctors pay an insane amount to get insurance companies to cough up what they owe. Part of the reason US healthcare is overpriced.
