Do You Contribute To Your Local Community?

Does anybody here do any community work? I've been interested in getting into some, would like to hear some ideas. Please share.

I employ locals at my business and to clean my house and such, but I don't do volunteer work or any shit like that.

Yes, every time the fucking cops extort me for money by saying Im not wearing my seat belt when I am. Im helping out on his paycheck .

I regularly employ single mothers in my neighborhood.

My wife is wrapped up into a local charity that consumes vast amounts of her time. It's entertaining.... I help from behind the scenes.

My mom does Big Brothers Big Sisters because I was not the ideal child. That's how I contribute.

As a cost saving measure, our community combined law enforcement with fire and rescue services into one entity. Because we pay extra to live here (to support these services) the costs to property owners is going up a buck a day and we'll have it on the next ballot for an up or down vote.

If the initiative is voted down, we'll be up to an hour from medical care (ambulance) and a half hour away from the Sheriff showing up, both of which could be a death sentence.

I'm helping out the "sales" effort by working on the education and marketing so that folks will realize the value of local law enforcement and be willing to pay up. It's an uphill battle of course as our community is like half retirees on limited incomes and half dope farmers that may not want the police poking around.

I'll convince both groups that keeping the cops is in their best interest

I spend a lot of my foreign earnings ( and pay local property taxes ) here so I guess I contribute to the well being of this local community.

I put in a lot more that I take out ...

I do ... by locking myself up on my apartment.

Not one solid response.

Every time I go to the supermarket, around 10 little old ladies make me get them stuff off the top shelf for them.. does that count?

When I lived on Pine Island in Florida there was a Catholic Church that would disburse food once a week to locals in need. I'm not Catholic but admired how they actually tailored the food distribution based on each families need.

I have more empathy for animals than humans and noticed nothing existed for pets. I would spend a few hundred a month and get cat/dog food on sale from grocery or drug stores and make sure families getting food could also feed their pets.

Good idea also because I know some were probably feeding their pets food they should have been eating themselves. When I moved to Tampa I stopped and currently don't do anything. Tampa is just to big and impersonal to get involved for me. Living in a gated community really numbs you to outside community involvement.

Both my daughters are in Waldorf school and we do support the local Waldorf community with LOTS of work..

Besides this I do some work for the local bicycle 'alliance'. I also maintain the trees which grow into the bicycle lanes and disturb the riders..

I pretty much have given up on man kind. I donate to the local Humane Society or dog rescues.

I use to donate time and money to the local food pantry, but after seeing so many people with nice cars and iphones getting food and abusing the situation......

i see your point, and it is indeed very nice to put money where the [chance of] abuse is smaller, but hey, if you see someone who is abusing the system you can always go there and ask wtf [in a more polite way of course..] :2 cents:

Yes, Too much actually. I don't think there is a day that goes by without someone emailing.calling.snailmailing or stopping by the offices looking for a contribution.

Along with the meals for Haiti which is coming up the big one for the year was we sponsored all the playground equipment for a new local park.
