There is one total paradox in news happening right now - we have this super disaster in Phillipine,and from other hand we have a "deal of the year" where one big ass Transformer (thing required to power up electric plant) was ordered and it going to be transfered by big ass transport plane known as "antonov",made in Ukraine and also biggest plane an world which caused huge desire from people to see it resulting in traffic collapse.Cost of deal and transport cost is 5 million euro(a transport cost more then Transformer itself)and they doing it due urgency compared to classic transport by sea.And the entity which ordered Transformer is Cebu province from Philippines,so i wonder why nobody in news didnt started to wonder could this natural disaster cause problem in this transport operation as Plane will go tomorrow there.Anyway,i hope cargo will successfully land and be deployed in electrical plant.

PI guy at the tech shop I go to is stressed to tears. Worry is not so much for the dead but the hundreds of thousands or more who are now homeless. Everything, just gone.

Just in case anyone is actually considering donating... don't bother. 90% or more of any relief/donation funds they receive will simply go into the pockets of the corrupt government officials there.

So unless you actually know someone there personally that is in need of help, do not bother.

The reason the death tolls get so high during disasters like this there in the PI is because they only send the bare minimum to make themselves look good on tv, the rest is pocketed because they can't give a shit about their own people.

VDbucks is right. And he isn't being a prick about it, he is speaking from a lot of experience dealing with that country and the people. That place is corrupt beyond belief. Even the most well known NGOs and charities have a lot of dirty hands in their pockets. There is money pouring into the Philippines all the time, but it all goes into filthy pockets.

If you're going to donate, I would only do so with the Red Cross. But even they are getting skimmed heavily just to operate there. Food and supplies get taken from them, re-sold, and so on. It's a tragic situation. It's African and Haiti level corruption, but in SE Asia.

Best that can happen to be honest is the USA or UN send in troops and aid to help them directly. In terms of money reaching it's target there, this is Haiti all over again. :Oh crap

It's heart breaking.

Food has to be stored in government warehouses at a high cost for security, so that only 1/2 gets resold out the backdoor. You want to fly aid into a province, then the governor gets a cut, and so on.

It too dangerous to go to that area, you need to take x amount of police with you at a cost of x and so on.

I've spent more time in the PI over the past 15 years than any other country combined. I think I know what I'm talking about.

People who watch the devastation on the news think "man, that's sad" but the reality is, things are a million times worse than what is shown on tv because it's not just the devastation of the storm that fucks up their lives, it's the added devastation of their own government not giving 2 fucks about them whatsoever.

I can help since I am based here. But frankly, do not send your donation to the government if you give 100 the poor people will only get 10 of it. Sometimes none.

Red Cross will do! But NGO's can't be! there are lots of NGO's which scamming their own kind and all of NGO's are being suspended recently due to PDAF scandal in the senate for ghost projects of NGO's.

It was obvious that you have experience in PI - I haven't been there but I know a lot about the Red Cross - and I have filled 3 Passports and traveled to more than 20 countries..including south east Asia more than 15 times. I live in Indonesia part time each year and personally witnessed the devastation of both the tsunami and the massive earthquake (aftermath)- and I've seen heroic selflessness of the Red Cross first hand.

For you to come in this thread and tell people not to bother donating any money to the Red Cross to help PI just shows that you are one callous and dumb asshole that doesnt know shit - and you certainly don't give a flying fuck about the people suffering in PI.

Right now the Red Cross is busy setting up shelters and giving people water and saving many lives - dumb ass statements from brainless tools like VD are extremely counter productive as there are a lot of wealthy people on GFY - MANY of which made a lot of their money with help from Filipino Programmers and Designers.

Still haven't heard from my designer (worked for me for the last 8 years and I consider him a friend) Hope he and his kids are ok.
