Eye opening flick. Watched it a couple years back on Netflix. Pretty fucked up.

Are you kidding?

Big Oil and Gas are fighting progress EVERY DAY of our lives.

They will NOT STOP fighting against progress, and they need to be stopped.

Are you still using oil and gas to heat your house or business?

Are you still using gas in your car?

This fight has been going on for a very very long time, and it is hardly over.

I don't think electric cars are ready for prime time yet. Tesla is close.

The gas and oil companies... We have to change over to energy companies. If they were smart they would be investing into solar power right about now. Gas stations need to become more like rest areas.... It will require some innovative thinking for sure.

Yep, must see doc.

I agree with you - I was just saying that the conspiracy (outlined in who killed) to suppress battery technology isn't currently happening. There is full blown R and D funding happening in many nations now - we are now in an era where if the tech becomes available that meets consumer needs - it will be adopted.

Fuck yes the big oil is fighting tooth and nail to keep their stranglehold, but their ability to suppress green tech isn't there any more.

Good points.

I think another excellent documentary IDEA would be an investigative piece, that exposes how many progressive technology patents are owned by Big Oil, hidden away and collecting dust.

I think it would be quite an eye-opener, and I am surprised this has yet to be done (as far as I know).

Have at it, GFY film makers!

I would very much like to hear more about this for sure - have you heard of anything specific? Battery patents?

I'm sure there is plenty of fodder out there, for such an investigative documentary.

Here is an interesting article from way back in 2002...

Yes really good movie. I've been "attached" to a few cars and knew how some of the people felt watching their cars get taken away.

The movie was a real eye-opener to me too. I never knew what happened to the EV1's until I saw this movie.

Lol!! Yikes!! Really? Trust me, still very relevant. Even more relevant I'd say because now there are more companies producing electric cars (GM, Nissan, etc) so I'll be the push-back from big oil is about to get worse.

I agree. Tesla is selling well and their stock is up but there's still a hiccup with other companies. Chevy's Volt is a pretty nice, fast and fun car but its electric side is limited to only about 50 miles forcing you to use gas still. I wonder though if they would make an all-electic volt, they would save weight by not requiring the gas car, gas tank, oil, oil pump, pistons etc etc. If an all electric volt could do 100 Miles on a charge that would be almost more interesting.

I Love Solar but its still too expensive. Plus I'm sure big oil wouldn't invest in any way to help their competitor. They might instead wait until they could buy it out and then crush them.

It's still going on just in different ways. There's a movement in Texas for example to make the sale of Tesla cars illegal.

And it's just not Tesla - its many republican senators too who are of course paid by big oil.

I think it works like this:

If the invention (whatever it is) has the ability to diminish the dominance and/or revenue stream of Big Oil and Gas, it is immediately labeled "a matter of national security"

Once a pending patent is deemed a "matter of national security" it is buried, never to be seen again. To even discuss the invention after this label has been assigned, guarantees imprisonment (or worse) for the inventor.

Or maybe I'm just a paranoid conspiracy theorist.... or maybe both.
