What would you do?

Okay, I have the following problem and would like your input.

In the building where I live, I continuously get disturbed by my upstairs neighbors fucking. They are in the apartment directly above mine, their bedroom is right above mine. I've been living here for close to a year, and when i first moved in I had to go upstairs because one (Sunday) night they were hammering (real hammering, not fucking) at close to 12:00 AM, believe it or not. I went upstairs and told them. They are a young couple living together, and they work from home, so they're schedules are not "normal". They go to sleep late, etc. That night, nearly 9 months ago, I went upstairs and explained that I could hear their noises and to please cut it down, especially that late at night. The dude was very polite and understanding, he told me he didn't know it was that loud, etc. Since then they haven't made much noise.

Now, for the last 2 months or so, they have been fucking every night, and it's always late, like 2 or 3 am. And on many nights they fuck, then stop, then an hour later fuck again. I can hear the bed moving, but more than that I can hear the girl screaming, and she screams pretty damn loud. At that hour at night, when there is almost complete silence in and outside the building, noises like that travel easily. And it's practically EVERY NIGHT.

Seriously, if you were in my position what would you do? Should I go upstairs again and say something? What would you say?

seeandsee 11-20-2013 06:19 AM

Just get fucking sound protectors :) pull them in your head holes and finish with it :)

Was the chick hot ?

Doesn't help you but i'm curious...

I haven't met her. Everyone asks me the same thing. And yeah, I would like to put a face on those screams/moans, so at least I could jerk off while I try to fall asleep.

Matyko 11-20-2013 06:48 AM

...move... :2 cents:
or:
lay your speakers so they aim upstairs, and when they just finished fucking troll them with something... for example play random videos from gaytube.com or chainsaw sound or looped 'applause' sound or what comes to your mind.

When my first kid was born we were suffering from the neighbours as well, a woman above us was wearing high heels at home, we always knew where she walks/is.. pretty disturbing.. So we decided to move out of the flat to a house... 6 years passed since, and during this summer we moved to our very own house, and would never ever move back to such a building you mention... :pimp

What if you record them fucking, cut a sound sample from the funniest/most loud parts, than leave the building for a few hours while playing the looped sound clips on high volume. Timing could be perfect when they are sleeping/quiet..

L-Pink 11-20-2013 06:58 AM

I would sneak into their apt while they are out and install hidden low light video cameras.

AllAboutCams 11-20-2013 07:45 AM

Didn't you make a thread about that a year ago? I remember something like that..

Jel 11-20-2013 08:02 AM

sounds like they don't know, again. Do what you did wih the hammering - he's already shown he is considerate, and was unwittingly causing you a noise problem around that. I think you need to do the same again, even if for no other reason than why would you not say anything.

Nope, pretty sure it wasn't me.

2MuchMark 11-20-2013 08:11 AM

Lol just ask them to keep it down. IF they know you can hear them just letting them know may embarrass them enough to be quiet. If they don't care, ask if you can take pictures or install a webcam and enjoy.

Yes, this is what I've been thinking. They must not know how easily I can hear them. I want to go upstairs again, but this time it's a bit embarrassing. Not sure how to go about it. I mean, how do you tell a couple that they're sex life is keeping you up at night?

"I don't mean to embarrass you, but etc etc" pretty easy really to let him know you aren't embarrassed/judgemental/etc, just want a night's sleep :) Odds are he/they'll cringe but laugh behind closed doors - most people are alike :thumbsup

that is a perk of owning or renting a home. Think about it.

I lived in a house for years. This is actually the first apartment I've lived in in about 9 years. It has it's pros and cons.

This is a pretty good idea, maybe they feel ashamed and at least they start trying to keep it down during the night. :2 cents:

Rochard 11-20-2013 11:01 AM

If something was keeping me up late at night, I'd move. However, with apartment living, it sort of is what it is. Always go for the top floor.

Rochard 11-20-2013 11:03 AM

While I am thinking about it, you can always crank up your stereo at 9am.

LAJ 11-20-2013 11:38 AM

It's an unfortunate by product of living in an apartment. I had this issue several years ago but the neighbors were below.

At first I stomped on the floor... loudly... to send a message. This would sometimes work. Then I would leave them notes under their door. Then I flat out confronted them.

Usually when people are thoughtless fucks who don't consider anyone else around them, there is little to no chance in getting thru to them.

If none of the above works, you are going to need to fuck with them to the point that they either move out, or they get evicted. I helped get my neighbors evicted. But surprise surprise I had found out from the landlord that they were a bunch of pigs and were always late on rent.

Make up a real-looking petition - saying, "Dear tenant #101- your fucking keeps us awake at night." Sign a bunch of random fake names on it. Tape it to their door.

Another copy in the lobby. Maybe the elevator door.

I've lived in a top floor apartment, it makes no difference. Noise comes with the territory when you live in an apartment sadly.

Sounds good in theory, in practice it's amazing how things can escalate into a really serious situation very quickly. Most domestic disputes between neighbours start with something small.

J. Falcon are you renting? If so how long is left on the lease?

Honestly you gotta move, I lived in an apartment once and never EVER again. Infact I won't live in any accommodation that isn't a detached property, you really can't put a price on a good nights sleep.

Especially if you're self employed and work from home

Anyway that's my :2 cents:

I'm renting and there are only 3 months left on the lease. The thing is I like the apartment and the location, and it's always a bitch to move. I had planned to stay at least one more year.

Last night was horrible. They kept me up to about 4 am. Not only fucking, but laughing (mostly the girl) and walking around at all hours, then fucking again. Got about 6 hours sleep. Rang their bell when I finally got up because enough is enough. Nobody answered. When I get home I'm going to try again.

I think staying for another year is a bad decision but it's your call

For me location is irrelevant if you're miserable living there, you can't escape noise and you can do absolutely nothing about it, even if you managed to get them evicted (which would take a LOT of effort) you have no control of who the next tenant will be.

I've been in your position, I know what it's like and it's not worth the hassle and most importantly the amount of time you'll spend angry, annoyed and completely consumed by this issue. It's exactly the type of feelings that lead to an illness

It's not worth it :2 cents:

kittykatt 11-21-2013 05:22 PM

I was in a similar situation a year ago when I lived in an apartment. I tried asking nicely but it continued. I got so annoyed from lack of sleep as it was every night for weeks that I finally lost it. I wrote a giant note on their door for any who passed to see explaining my frustration with the nat geo type noises that were keeping me up. I wrote a preferred time 7am to midnight that I wouldn't mind and asked them to keep it down at all other hours. I then proceeded to tell a few other tenants about the occurrences, no surprise they had heard them too, and word spread quickly. The couple seemed slightly angry with me at first but later apologized and kept it down for the most part :thumbsup

J. Falcon 11-22-2013 03:49 PM

Update on this situation for anyone interested. It turns out the tenants above me are not the same from before; those moved out. This is a new couple. I spoke to the guy, he just left my apartment actually. He, also, was very considerate and we had a few laughs about the situation. Being new in the building, I think he didn't know how easily noise travels here. Anyway, I told him it was his girlfriend, and he promised to find a solution. He gave me his cell phone number, to message or call him if and when the noise is bothering me.

I know this doesn't mean the problem is resolved, but it's a start. We'll see how it goes.

American Psycho 11-22-2013 05:39 PM

most condos these days are made with cardboard walls.

I just moved out of a high rise condo for that reason... people upstairs people next to me n I heard everything!

I could hear the guy next door use his blender to make shakes and burp after and I could hear him talk on the phone about everyrhing. I could hear like he was next to me. he didn't work a normal schedule so he would be up till all hours sometimes and was a gay party guy bringing dudes over all the time to do blow and fuck and always play music loud when he got stupid drunk and forgot he had neighboors.

He was always polite and said sorry etc not again but he would just get the fall down drunk and I think wouldn't remember or didn't care.

then had couple above me that like clockwork would go oit every Friday Saturday night get drunk come home @ 2pm and fight and throw s*** all over the place and yell and scream for hour... mostly the girl going crazy didn't hear the guy much.
The girl would also wear her heels at home all night while they did blow ...of course also hear them fucking but mostly fight and her wearing heels.

So I went up to speak w him and he shut the door I my face and said to deal w management. Wanted to knock his little greasy head off....

so from that day forward I would call management on them all the time even when they were not making noise just to get them kicked out of the building and I also put my boombox on my balcony and played it at 10am in the morning when they were just getting to sleep.

Noise stopped after they both got final notices from the board they would be kicked out with any more complaints.

Phoenix 11-22-2013 05:57 PM

I hate living in an apartment as some time the neighbors aren't so nice.

J. Falcon 12-02-2013 09:35 AM

Hey, thanks for bumping this, I was just about to do so myself.

Since I spoke to my neighbor the noises have decreased dramatically. I can still hear them fucking occasionally, but the noises the girl makes are a lot lower, and they don't seem to fuck everyday or super-late anymore.

How I told him? I said "You live with your girlfriend, right?" He said "Yes." I said, "Well, she's the one making the noise." He said that yes, she does tend to get rowdy. We had a good laugh about it.

But you don't have any noise from an upstairs neighbor. That's where all the noise comes from, at least in my building. I don't hear the people below me, or even the people next to me (unless I'm in the hallway).

That's what I thought, right? Wrong! Top floor = pipes on roof of building! Noisy sometimes.
How about renovations/drills next door neighbours, those fuckers always know how to find you.

Not for a hetero. Most of us would be able to "use" the noise if she was in the least hot and go back to bed. Homophobia would kill the other situation for me. Sad but true.

That's apartment living unfortunately. I'd either troll them back, politely ask them to keep it down, really obnoxiously give them a high five every time you see them at the mailbox, ask them to sign a model release and put a camera in their room so at least I can say "well, at least I'm making $ from the lack of sleep", or get noise canceling headphones and ignore it.

I had a neighbor at my last apartment before I moved into my house now who was this REALLY reserved IT guy. Only ever went to work except about once every 2 months he had this fat chick over that was LOUD. Everyone in our building heard it very clearly. It was always around 2-3am(which was strange for him as he was otherwise pretty "square") and always loud enough to wake you from a dead sleep.

Given the situation, though, I always thought "good for him".
