Yeah i am aware of that, although I've been reading that Google has good enough algo's to detect link building strategies, some people say to stay clear of this, some say otherwise.

i run a webcomic - average length of visit on 2 page views is 16 mins - peeps reading is slow slow slow but they have to want to engauge to that level in the first place ...

Internal links can be a good thing. Send your visitors to other parts of your site. You keep them around longer and get another chance to sell them.

Not getting any love from google so as i'm concerned... not really a seo-thing.

To keep visitors on your site longer... maybe try to find a shitty host which loads your pages very slow! You will save money and have higher time on site!
