difference between VPS and dedicated server???
I wonder about the difference between VPS and dedicated server, I will use for datingsite with cam2cam medium traffic a couple 100k visiters per day.
|
A dedicated is totally yours, all the hardware, all the disk, processor and stuff. Should shit go wrong, a disk failure or so, it's your machine that will take the hit and you'll be down until it's fixed.
VPS, you share a physical machine with others, say 4-8 accounts per machine. You all have a part of the machine, dedicated to you, but often have the possibility of overusing your share, burst into, the commonly shared processor power for any traffic spike that might occur, as long as the other accounts are not currently using their share of the power. |
For what you want to do I would definitely go with a dedicated server right off the bat.
I use Cyberwurx and have both a VPS there and a dedicated server. I use them because they have the best support I have ever received. And they build very stable systems. I have used pretty much every adult host and tons more mainstream. Cyberwurx outshines them all. Use 10TB on checkout and get 10 terabytes of bandwidth. Also with any hosting company, haggle! The prices are more of a suggestion. Get them to throw in free 2 gigs memory or add some IP's. They will bend over backwards for your business. |
well im using arvixe at the moment and they have dedicated from 100$ and up. as a start, is it enuff to use there 100 offer? or should I go for 300$ offer ???...

vps is cheaper and u can run any os if your choice
dedicated has fixed capacity but it can be really large vps is mix of shared and dedicated server you can view this hosting balticservers they have Lithuanian based servers the prices are pretty affordable prices and specs https://www.balticservers.com/dedica...-intel-servers drop them email asking for traffic u are supposed to receive on ur website |
so in the start vps is enuff?
|
If you are looking for cheap to start up, you could also use cloud hosting. Long run it gets expensive to fully rely on. But you only pay for what you use.
Id say dedicated, plan for success. You could get by on VPS but do you really want to upgrade it when its running slow and shitty? |

Yes u have a point there.... but what do hosting companys count as lowtraffic websites? i was thinking in that way to start with the cheaper option 100$ per month, and then upgrade it. that sounds ok? |
