Here's the rig. Kljatov decided to boost the magnification power of his Canon PowerShot A650 camera by reverse-mounting a manual Helios 50mm F2 lens onto the front of it. With the camera and lens screwed onto the same baseboard, the camera's lens is zoomed into its maximum telephoto setting, pointing straight down the front element of the Helios.

what i want to know is how he isolates snowflakes like that!

he's a unique snowflake!!

lens is on backwards.... used to be how they shot ALL macros... a telephoto mounted in reverse

my observation was that he put extension rings on the front of the lens to create the proper focal distance and be able to set the camera down on the lens, over the snowflake to get the photo.

Macro photography was one of the initial things I learned back in the mid/late 70's, I had a really good 55mmmacro lens as one of the first lenses I purchased after "the usual" lenses back then.
These snowflake pics are truly amazing, and his innovation is quite inspiring, as well! :thumbsup:thumbsup
