It's a marginally impressive technology. It has spots of "holy fuck" but it's mostly interspersed with the sad state of "current" VR's limitations. When my Virtuix Omni gets here, it'll get a lot better. The Razer Hydra will help a lot, too, as will the racing setup, with chair wheel, shifter, and pedals.

Yes, and yes. There's a virtual "movie theater" that you can actually sit down in and watch, pretty cool, but gimmicky for now. :thumbsup

Web site is here:

That is actually not a bad price - have not read up on it - plug and play or needs specific games for it?

Games, by and large, perform MUCH better with native support. There are drivers to get other games working, but the experience is not as seamless. With the Omni motion platform, Razer Hydra controller, and the racing setup, it's going to be much more immersive.

That sounds like a vote for me to bring it to the hospitality suite, LOL. :thumbsup

freecartoonporn 12-04-2013 10:14 PM

what is that thing ? never seen one before.

onwebcam 12-04-2013 10:16 PM

A good friend got it a few months ago. He's behind the development of a new game and they are making it work with oculus. He kept going on and on about it so I finally gave in and went to try it out. Grant it it's new and it may be because I'm not a gamer but I wasn't overly impressed.

I used this at my friends house a handful of times. The roller coaster is a insane! I never thought you would get the same feelings as you do. It was quite hard keeping balance too while going along the track. All in all it was definitely an experience but gives you somewhat of a headache after a while. I also played some spider shooting game where you can move your hands/guns around using hand held joy sticks. Completely immerses you in the environment

xNetworx 12-05-2013 10:14 AM

Can you fap to porn in that thing like a cyber perv?

johnnyloadproductions 12-05-2013 10:37 AM

Not sure if you are aware, but John Carmack (the main developer and brains behind most if not all of the id tech game engines: wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Doom 3, Rage) recently just left id to work at Oculus full time.

I think it has a lot to do with the individual. There was a group of us playing around with it and some seemed to get more of a sensation if you will than others.. One chick who is known to be a bit clumsy fell out of the chair and knocked crap off the desk. While me on the otherhand just moved my head around. I did feel a slight sensation going down hill but nothing even remotely like a rollercoaster.

It has flashes of brilliance for sure. This model is not HD, but in 2015, the HD version will likely be out. That should make a huge difference. Try the coaster with a fan blowing on your face and someone rocking your office chair -- it really confuses the body.

I went to Universal Studios in Orlando a couple of weeks ago, and the Harry Potter ride was absolutely fantastic; full motion actuation, immersive screens, etc.

If that exists, I haven't found it yet! But you CAN sit in a virtual movie theater and watch whatever, so I guess porn is included.

Yup. His endorsement is in the promotional video, and when he fully left id to join Oculus, it was exciting news.

Choopa Phil 12-05-2013 11:27 AM

Yea at first I pretty much shit bricks on the coaster, especially looking down and around me. Ive gone sky diving and am an adrenaline junkie but this thing was like kyroptonite for me. Still very cool none the less...cant wait for more stuff to come out

The purveyors of both legal and illegal pornography just found a new medium!

That sounds awesome!

What is your review after having it 24+ hours? Straight out of the box, what is it like?

Worth getting or wait ?

I would NOT get a development kit. Would wait for the HD retail version.

Any particular reason for that?

2015 is the HD release date isn't it?
