Lying on a financial aid form

hey I had to go to the emergency room tonight and I know the bill will be big. I have no insurance.
I am filling out a financial aid form and have to show last years taxes.
I could take last years taxes, scan them, and photoshop them to show I made very little.

If I did that do they check with the govt, or do they just go by the official looking documents i give them? what are my chances of getting caught?

Clay 12-07-2013 03:17 AM

And before you say anything bad, that fucking emergency room was *PACKED* with mexicans who didnt speak english, got their treatment and walked right out without paying a dime.
Meanwhile I've paid my whole life into the system and gotten nothing back out of it. My tax money goes to pay for mexicans who put nothing into it.

JockoHomo 12-07-2013 03:34 AM

Lie and don't give it a second thought! Everyone else does...only fools play by the rules and they lose!

woj 12-07-2013 05:34 AM

it costs them time and $$ to check in detail, so who knows if they would bother checking...

but forging tax documents, especially if $1000s is involved is probably a pretty major crime... if you get caught likely they would just deny your claim, but is risking jail time worth it?

and really it sounds like you don't qualify for assistance because you make decent $$$, so probably just man up and pay the bill $$? I know it sucks, but you saved $1000s over the years by not having insurance, now is the time to pay...

see what the bill is first, and go from there, for all you know it might be "only" few thousand, if that's the case then it's pretty much what you would have paid in insurance premiums over the past year, so even with this bill you likely still came out way ahead....

MrMaxwell 12-07-2013 05:46 AM

Altering a document is an extremely terribly bad idea
Does it HAVE to be a tax return?

Perhaps you could instead provide a couple of W2s from this or that sponsor to "prove" your income level.

This makes sense.

Forgering tax documents? You must be out of your god damn mind.

Here the good news: you are gonna get free health care, 3 meals a day and butt sex if you get caught.

Seriously though, is it worth the risk?

Manfap 12-07-2013 07:02 AM

So basically you're saying you've earn't ok money, you just didnt want to pay insurance?

And you blame Mexicans for making you commit a crime.

Emergency medical crisis or trauma is more certain than death and sooner or later most of us will have some illness or accident requiring hospitalization. That is the reason that we all should pay for universal one-payer healthcare in the US.

Facts are, they way things stand today; if you are uninsured you get the minimal and least costly treatment required by law at a hospital and if you are insured you are treated like a "valued customer (that can pay)". Remember that when a trauma injury might threaten amputation of a leg or something, you don't what them saying that this guy has no insurance or means to pay for this costly, iffy treatment so: "let's just chop his leg off -- it's cheaper to do!"

I just came home from the hospital a couple of weeks ago -- I had some routine, scheduled, but serious surgery and haven't even gotten the bill yet. I came out of anaesthesia, that's a trip in itself -- "hey I must not be dead" -- in a private ICU room. Not to worry, I have insurance that will pay for most of this. The "list price" was probably $30K. This is the second time other, side 2 years ago was $23K "list price". My insurer paid $14K on the contract price I paid the other 20%. I have a 80%/20% deductible.

Point is: you can probably negotiate a settlement price along these lines. Medicare or Medicaid would pay roughly 22% - 26% of the hospital's "list price" -- use that as a starting point in your negotiations.

Unfortunately, paying for major medical expenses is like buying a car -- that's not right but the way it is in amerika.

I hope that you get well and that you trauma was not too serious -- a minor sewing job or a broken bone or the like ...

This is exactly the type of shit Obamacare is trying to prevent, so the rest of us aren't paying their way.

no i made ok money last year, this year was a disaster, my business shut down and I had to dissolve my llc.
They go by last years taxes, not this years.

I had insurnce my whole life but let it expire 2 months ago and the one time i didnt have it, this shit happens.
and yeah. I do get pissed that I paid into the system my whole life and get nothing back, but people who pay $0 get treated well.

my guess is they go by "most recent rax return"... so do your taxes early in jan 2014 and then apply for financial aid based on 2013 tax returns... :thumbsup

This.

They normally say last years's tax return because that is often what people have available, but since we are so close to the new year you could get this year's pretty quickly.

Also, you can explain to them about your situation and they will likely work with you.

About a year and a half ago I was in the hospital for 4 days. They were unsure if my insurance was going to cover it so they explained a lot of different options to me.

If you are legitimately in a bad way they will work with you.

MrMaxwell 12-08-2013 06:02 AM

The ER and the doctors always will give you a cash discount. It never costs as much for cash clients. Does the ER bill you separately from the ER doc, there? If so, fuck, that sure sucks dried out 90 year old sour milk giving nipples.

You are right about the system. My father paid in for his whole life and forever, faithfully like a taxpayer person, then when he needed help they fucked him to no end. He wants to work so badly that he passed out at his last job trying to work.. he STILL wanted to work. All he wanted to know in the hospital when he woke up was when he could go back to work.

People like him get FUCKED while the lowlives descend down like locust to eat all of the honey. Me, I am off the grid, because fuck this system.

Tookie- 12-08-2013 10:30 AM

go for it bro, fuck em.
