Anyone here uses mechanical keyboard?

Hi there!

I've just read that they are better when you do a lot of typing, anyone has one here?

ps: a nice article http://www.daskeyboard.com/blog/mech...eyboard-guide/

I think that if you are a super-user that does a lot of gaming and are aggressive with your keyboards, yeah, go for it. It'll last a couple years longer but in saying that, if you can get 2-3 years out of a fancy keyboard (as most non-mechanical ones do) then why bother paying the extra price for a mechanical, that will most likely have less available features, when most get something new that often anwyays?

They are noisy!!

AllAboutCams 12-08-2013 02:42 AM

you can spill beer on them

Sin_Vraal 12-08-2013 03:22 AM

it boils down tho this.

if you are old enough to remember the old school apple 2e clicky keyboard, or old dell keyboards, you probably have an addiction to the 4 of the key press, the sound, and certainty of punching down that key.

they last longer, as stated, can handle natural disasters such as beer, and general all around awesomeness.

if you are young enough not to be brought up on them you will think they are ancient noisy and heavy on your fingers.

thats about all there is to it.

I use one at home and at the office. My already fast typing speed has went up substancially because you can hear exactly when you need to be on the next key. They aren't THAT noisy (i use razor blackwidows) but the noise makes it sound like you are super productive. I probably sound like a room off of typewriters at this point when i code. When i type on a regular keyboard now it feels like a sponge...

IMHO *definately* worth every penny.

never dealt with an apple computer in my life, but I had an Atari, also friends had Commodore 64 and my first PC was a 386 with an HP keyboard... so any of those maybe had mechanical keyboard? :)

Ditto. I have two at home. I am on the last gen, non-backlit right now. My main desk has the Razer 2013 and it kicks ass.

I use a Das Keyboard silent at the office. It's OK but nothing like the Razer. I noticed Logitech just put one out too. I bet that's a good one too.

Cyber Fucker 12-08-2013 09:56 AM

Yes, I use only mechanical ones. So much more convenient.

Yes actually I have a 1985 IVM Keyboard connected to one of my 2 iMacs. It's very clicky with nice feedback and extremely fast.

I just bought a new keyboard called the Razer BlackWidow ultimate:

and I love it. First its mechanical but the feel is top-notch. It's also backlit to look cool and works perfectly on PC's and Macs.

They are worth it. If you are sitting on 1K+ a month income that is for whatever you want to do with it I would suggest investing in one. It is louder though. A lot louder. So if your home office is right next to where your better half sleeps and you like to work while they sleep I would caution you against it.

You will type a lot faster and have far fewer mistakes.

If you aren't living the lifestyle you want (MrMaxwell) then I would say continue with what you have and focus on ways to grow your business instead.

cash isn't an issue at all, just checking out if it's worth it :)

I used the classic Model M keyboards for years. They're really great for typing on. The noise travels through walls, you will wake people up if you're up late searching for fap material. If someone were to jump into the room and start shooting at you, you could deflect the shots with your keyboard, then decapitate them with a few strong blows of the sharp end.

I got a great deal around 1997 on some IBM KB-7953 keyboards, and have been using them ever since. Not clicky, but they have a great feel and good travel, and certainly feel like a more substantial piece of equipment (weigh 3x as much as my logitech cordless keyboard). For a Model M user looking for something quieter, they're worth looking at.

I own Razor BlackWidow as well and for some reason still can't decide between this and regular cheap Logitech K120. But the feeling of mechanical keys is great for sure.

Danm too many extra keys for my taste :)

2MuchMark 12-09-2013 01:04 AM

On my Mac, the Black Widow Ultimate keyboard connects via USB port. However the Mac comes with a wireless keyboard. Surprisingly, this lets me use both keyboards at the same time and super-surprisingly to me, this cured me of painful carpel tunnel syndrome.

I have my BW keyboard on a keyboard tray, and the original mac keyboard on my desk right above it. I'm fast on both and I now switch between them almost without thinking about it. I'll begin a sentence on 1 keyboard, switch to the other one, and then switch back. It's amazing. For years and years I would have to stop working because of pain, but no longer.

Crazy..

so far its good, a little noisy but i think that i'll get used to it

bronco67 12-12-2013 11:57 AM

I prefer my organic meat keyboard.

i don't understand how a mechanical keyboard makes anyone faster. It's most likely a psychological thing, like putting an extra loud muffler on your honda civic to make it sound faster. I have spent years on both and I can't even tell the difference, other than the noise.

oh and for office use? forgetaboutit...

HTMwrestling 12-12-2013 12:53 PM

My Steelseries 6Gv2 has made me less productive since the main reason I got it was for gaming.

Only 'The Das' will suffice
