I have never even heard of an Apecoin.

How do you know all of these Alt currencies are real. I mean anyone can create one.

I was reading about some guy that downloaded a wallet for a coin (can't remember which) and it stole all of his peercoins and namecoins.
Just be aware that not all wallets are perhaps as secure as you might think, it doesn't take a genius to add malware to the code.

When you open a new wallet it takes a little time for the wallet to sync.

To mine with the wallet there is no real point the difficulty is too high that's why where looking for a pool that stays up.

If you want to try

Guild to mining Apecoin.
Step 1. Download your wallet (links in side bar or please check official site.
Step 2. Open up your Apecoin wallet and let it sync.
Step 3. When sync has completed click mining.
Step 4. On the mining page enter
Server: Localhost
Port: 3333 or 8080
Step 5. Click start mining / stop mining / start mining to get the miner to work.
Hope this helps let me know if you need anything adding.

I checked the Block explorer and saw the transaction has gone through, though they don't appear in my wallet yet. I know this can take sometime, has anyone else had theirs show up yet?

Nope.

But my wallet still isn't synced either.

I think you missed one important point on that minning guide :)

You have to also download the miner software as well as the wallet to mine

Also make sure you have the minerd.exe file in the same file as your wallet

You also then need to configure your miner software to work with your CPU or GPU

Not sure if apecoin is on here yet but its pretty easy to use these types of sites for minning http://p2pool.org/

Exactly what I was thinking. If you are going to play with these things, then you really should be using a dedicated pc with no passwords or data to steal, and even then you should prepare yourself for the inevitable day that you lose the fortune that you amassed just as mysteriously as how you earned it..... :2 cents:

Create a new "CG Miner" in GUIminer-scrypt
Input the following information into GUIMiner-scrypt:
Host: 127.0.0.1
Port: 9332

Use stratum: No
Extra flags: --auto-fan
For the rest of the options, you can lookup the optimal settings for your GPU here
Open the ApeCoin client again
Start mining!
You should see "xxx khash/s" in the right corner of the GUIMiner-scrypt window if you did it right. Also, don't mine on laptops and remember to check on your GPU temperatures, i use Open Hardware Monitor.

I'm starting to wonder if this is another one of those things we get f%$ked over with, because we're in Canada.

There's yet to be any syncing for myself.

Im not 100% sure why its not syncing my wallet syncs within a minute of opening it.

All I did was open the program and change my passphrase...did you do anymore than that? I didn't do any of the sign message / verify message stuff.
