Anybody else here who doesn't give a rat's ass about Christmas?

I've never been a fan of many holidays, including Christmas. As a kid my family was all about this holiday. They made a regular thing out of inviting 50+ people over for Christmas parties and then singing Christmas carols throughout the neighborhood. But me? I just didn't care. I would even wait and open my presents last while everybody else was excited and tearing into theirs.

I'll be turning my phone off today so I don't have to deal with the phone calls from "friends" and "family" who only call once a year. I pretty much feel the same way about all commercialized holidays....Which of course makes me Mr. Popular during Valentines Day too. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it or wish to ruin it for others, it's just not for me.

The silver lining in my cloud is that I'll happily enjoy a good hot buttered rum buzz. :glugglug

if you have kids you have little choice in it.

MaDalton 12-25-2013 09:14 AM

my phone is off as well, no christmas decoration at all - just relaxing and watching TV

MK Ultra 12-25-2013 09:15 AM

It's amazing how many people take my non-participation in christmas as a personal affront

They become determined that they are going to force it on me even though I've made it very clear that I want no part of it

Those are the people that I "lose" contact with over time

Hell our entire society forces it on us through the media and retailers, you can't escape it :helpme

ErectMedia 12-25-2013 09:15 AM

Christmas is actually the only Holiday I give a shit about but this year I changed my plans last minute to catch up on work so not as social this year.

You're right. And I believe that if/when I have kids that I would be happy to get involved for their sake.

i love the irony of the birthday of jesus being replaced by rampant self absorbed consumption in honor of a red wearing fat man. That is hilarious.

but in honesty i like getting together with family & the non-stop flogging of christmas advertising ends today.

woo hoo!

I don't believe in god, so Christmas is nothing to me personally. But the New Year celebration is a much different thing. I was waiting it 365 days a year when I was a kid. Now it's just a kind of my childish memoirs (waiting for a miracle etc), but as much as I'm getting older, all these memories are getting more and more misty, dim and foggy...

suesheboy 12-25-2013 09:25 AM

I feel the same way since I was an adult. Phone off as well.

Merry Peace and Quiet!

Same here...doing a little work, and watching the three NBA basketball games!
{Shooting a new girl tonight, too!}

I give less than a rat's ass. But I still get roped into a bunch of shit I don't want to participate in.

Only it's not really even Jesus' birthday instead actually a Pegan holiday celebrating the Sun being born again not the son.

I love xmas,
1. the weather is colder (I live in Florida)
2. so many girls at the malls just hanging out wanting a boy friend for xmas so they are not alone. From mid Nov. till mid Dec it is so easy to tap those fine asses. They just walk around handing out their numbers begging for it. They are in a hurry so the cock is being sucked that night hah
3. what more matters after number two.
4. speaking of FORE the weather is great for a round of golf in Florida, beats that summer golf when all the grass is dry. They plant fresh rye grass and the courses are beautiful.

My favorite holiday. Its not about religion for me and not about commercializing. Its about all family and relatives having a nice time, it does not happen often during the year.

As for Valentines days bullcrap - I agree and do not pay attention to it, unless I am having a gf during that day. Then I pay attention reluctantly just because she would not feel bad. its somehow "important" day for chicks..

aztecboi2003 12-25-2013 10:24 AM

Just another day to me, may to to the casino and play a little. Hope my machine is a little looser than normal.

L-Pink 12-25-2013 10:25 AM

Christmas is great!

JFK 12-25-2013 12:51 PM

I agree with the op, we only do it for the kids and grandkids, now they are all done and gone, let the drinking games begin Merry Christmas :) :smilie_we

Agree. Its wack like black friday madness.

Now have a son so do some stuff for him.

Girls def do put a lot into valentines day.
A previous gf got pissed when I took her to nice dinner for Valentine's Day but no flowers or card and she was upset that she didn't get a card.
Needless to say i dont date her any longer.

I believe actions are more important than mostly material junk, sadly most don't seem to get it.

It is one of those holidays that I don't really care about. I could take it or leave it. My brother and I long ago stopped exchanging gifts because we realized it was crazy for me to spend $100 (or however much) to get him something and he does the same for me adn then you hope you got them the right thing.

Today was just a shitty Christmas. Normally I go over to my moms and hang out with her and watch movies. I have had a really nasty flu the last two days so I was still feeling pretty bad and was just worn out. But I dragged my ass over there. During the drive there I have a coughing fit and have to pull off the road so I won't crash.

I get there and we talk for a little bit and start the movie and 30 minutes into she is snoring and asleep because the is the time of day she normally naps.

So I head home only to realize I left my lights on and have a dead battery. So I have to call my brother who drives out and jump starts my car.

When it was all said and done I should have just stayed home and in bed.

jmcb420 12-25-2013 09:04 PM

eh.
I hate this time of year. Christmas is just the peak. New years is coming up, hit a party, chase a piece of ass, and hunker down for one more month. Spring will be around soon enough.

Mutt 12-25-2013 10:29 PM

I love Christmas, I just buy in to it all knowing what it is, perhaps the way religious people suspend their rationality and accept the Bible faithfully. I'm a cynical bastard, cursed by what I think is a very rational mind, I'd prefer to really believe.

I have great Christmas memories as a kid so I just like to keep up the ruse in my mind. Two days a year I love the schmaltz of it all, listening to Christmas music right now, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin. When I see Christmas Mass from the Vatican, look out my window and see snow on the ground and icicles from the roof, it's so tempting to believe and imagine the setting of the scene 2000 years ago where the three wisemen from the east are guided by a special star to the tiny village of Bethlehem where in a manger Mary is giving birth to the son of God, born to die for all our sins.

Jews write great stories, people forget that the early Christians were Jews, and regarded themselves as Jews.

I will watch either Christmas Story or It's A Wonderful Life before I go to sleep and that will be a wrap for Christmas 2013 for me.

I don't know how people in non-winter climates get into the Christmas spirit, I just don't feel it when we have a mild green Christmas.

That's why I called and called yet you wouldn't pick the phone up. :( I don't care that much about Xmass my self as my grandmother passed away on the 20th not of this year but it's a yearly reminder.

I turned my phone off on Christmas Eve. It's still off and will most likely stay that way until Saturday.

Christmas is what you make of it. Take the time off and visit friends and family, or at the very least, do something good for yourself. Spend some time away from work and count your blessings. You may not realize it but you've got a lot more than most anyone else. Be thankful for that.

I love Christmas. For me, keeping certain traditions are important and Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two most important.

It begins with the viewing of "La Vendedora de Rosas" and "It's a Wonderful Life" on Dec 23, along with a lot of spiked Eggnog. Those two films show us that Christmas can be filled with despair and hope. We also remember all those who have passed in the past year.

Every Dec. 24, my extended family (about 40 people) gather together for a dinner of "the seven fishes" (an Italian-American tradition) and then we open the presents at midnight. From dinnertime (about 6pm) until midnight, we talk about the last year, recount stories about family members who are no longer with us, and generally laugh and cry until the youngest family member rings the Christmas bells at midnight, signaling that it's time to open the gifts.

We eat too much, cry too much, laugh a lot and I wouldn't miss it for the world. It's nice to have some tradition in a life that's ever-changing and uncertain.

IMO, I can't wait for the Christmas season to end. So many headaches and everyone is so centered around RECEIVING gifts :disgust

Every day is what you make of it. A commercialized holiday has absolutely nothing to do with that. :2 cents:

True but I'm a work-a-holic. I force myself to take it easy during Xmas at least as its the rate time our family gets together.
