Anyone Done Their Family Tree?..

I have just started and found out my mother has a half sister she didn't know about...

What else will I dig up - My family are all a bit odd so it could be anything.....

Can anyone recommend any good software?..

My father died when I was a baby; I was never close to his side of the family. When I was twenty-five I got a call from my grand mother (my father's mother), and she told me my sister was trying to reach me. The only problem is... I didn't have a sister.

Turns out I did. Before I was born, my father was married and had a daughter. About the same time, he had son with another woman. So I had a brother and a sister I never knew I had - and lots questions about why all of this was hidden from the three of us.

Have you tried ancestry.com?

I have been really lucky - The first site I found was this http://www.blackmanfamily.org/

He has been researching the name for over a decade and has put it all online - What a stroke of luck...

My father's been working on the family tree for years - on MyHeritage.com.

He's traced my mother's side back to the 1400s...and his own side to the early 1700s.

The only eye-opening discovery was learning Thomas Alva Edison is a distant relation on his side of the family.

I definitely inherited the Edison genes - I can flip a lightswitch on and illuminate a room. :thumbsup

Wow - 1400's - That's impressive...

The only thing I am not sure of is that there seem to be a lot of assumptions made - If just one is wrong you could be led totally the wrong way.....
