Beautiful guitar! There is a solid reason that LP's are still at the top.

The only thing I suggest is get a little wider strap than you are used to. They are a bit heavier than most guitars.

goo dtip. I've been eyeballing a wide strap at amazon too. This one has the traditional weight relief, which gets good reviews over the newer style relief for tone. But it's still gonna come in at 9.5 lbs-ish, less than 10 though.

Minte 01-07-2014 12:43 PM

That extra couple of pounds shouldn't really make a difference but after about an hour of standing with it you realize..it does. I have been playing my R2 gt exclusively the last few weeks. They really are nice instruments. They do everything well.

I can only imagine that r2, just based on my short experience with the 60s tribute LP I snagged back in Nov. I just put it on the scale 8.6lbs not bad. The new one has the GRanadillo fingerboard, I've read good things about that.

Hello Roof, Been a while for sure. When I am around, this is the only board I am still reading and posting at.

hah! ugh. coming from nj through all the weather earlier this week, fedex shows it's scheduled for Monday delivery. Good thing there is plenty of football to get me through the weekend & anticipation.

I'll take some pics for sure, next to the 60s tribute too, I curious how it stacks up against that 1. Also super curious about the Granadillo fret board. Have you played a Gibson with that?

I think I did play one at the Milwaukee Guitar Center. And the good news, is that all the LP's fretboards and frets were to similar to feel any difference. The big variable with LP's are in the neck profiles. Some of them are really big. This 52r I just got is a perfect example. It's a totally different feel than the tribute I have.

I think that's one of the main reasons LP owners are always flipping them. They love the tone but hate the neck profile.

I've yet to play a fat neck guitar at all. Was doing some research on jimi's tone, from what I gathered he always chose the strats with the fat necks (the ones that also have the big headstock) to get more of it.

I'm looking forward to giving one a whirl one day, particularly, a 59 LP.

I seem to adapt easily to different neck profiles, but I really like the Ibanez Jem7V neck.
Real thin and flat. I can play a lot faster on it than anything else I currently own. When I am talking with other musicians, I usually make this comparison. Gibson and Fender are like a hammer. Ibanez is like a scalpel. Very precision.

Ok, maybe Jman was right about the Motel idea after all... :winkwink:

That's that funky guitar with the hand grip cutout you have eh? Is that consider a sharpie guitar- shreddable?

CDSmith 01-10-2014 08:46 AM

I just got a Groupon email for online guitar lessons 80% off.

Anyone want me to forward it just say the word. :D

Thanks for the offer, CD, I'm set with online lessons with rocksmith and justinguitars. I'm currently looking for a local in-person teacher for more guitar theory learning, although I've seen some online ones that get pretty good reviews.

That's the one. It also has the top 5 frets scalloped so you can actually play things in that register. It's what Steve Vai plays.

No wonder she can shred so well..that guitar has 7 strings!

I have tried a 7 and it was really odd. I've been playing 6string for too many years to probably ever feel comfortable with something like that. But it clearly is a pointy/sharpy :winkwink:
