Cool, was waiting for this. Costs a bit more than you mentioned but it's worth it. Will grab it now.

just a punk 01-10-2014 06:15 AM

The price includes free lifetime support and free updates. Also it is the unlimited license (no domain restrictions, no protection etc).

AHarper 01-10-2014 07:02 AM

Was no complaint, always happy with your products and prices :thumbsup

Getting it tonight :)

AHarper 01-10-2014 10:59 AM

Just replaced the free plugin with the pro one...works great. Keep up the good work!

fris 01-10-2014 11:18 AM

does it actually work with html5 videos not using a flash player? from the one on wp.org i noticed, it doesnt use wordpress standards at all, meaning you run a regex on the_content which is totally bad and not needed.

are you going to be fixing this?

Yes. Check out the Flash and HTML5 modes section or simple open the demo player on iPad ;)

Nope. This is totally correct by many reasons. Such as support of the old versions of WP (the plugin works pretty fine with WordPress 2.5 and lower), compatibility with the old freeware plugins, avoiding limitations of the new WP shortcode standards, preventing the player to be displayed outside of the post/page area, protection from interecping the shortcode by other plugins/themes and many other serious reasons. If you think that something is "totally bad", it's just your personal thought only. Please think about it.

not my personal thoughts, the correct way to do shortcodes is via the shortcode api, not by using a regular expression that is run on the_content every single time.

the free version doesnt work with html5 videos only, it uses a .swf file (player) which wont work on a non flash device.

unless the pro version is different.

Are you kidding on me? No, really? :)
  1. When exactly WordPress has added these "shortcode api"? In version 2.5? The freeware plugin you are referring to was written years before it. How could it use something which wasn't even implemented in WP?
  2. The most important thing to me is to keep all versions of the plugin compatible. If I switch it to WordPress shortcode API, it automatically became incompatible with the old versions, so all my customers will lost their video embeds right after the update. How dumb you must be to fuck your customers (almost 9k downloads from WP repository and who knows how many from my site directly) for your ego only?

How exactly do you think this new WordPress shortcode API works? You will be shocked but they also use regular expressions and they are far more complicated than the one used in KVS FLV Player and KVS Player Pro. I mean this one: "'\[flv:(.*?)\]'ie" - oh, it's sooooo complicated, ah? http://s52.radikal.ru/i137/1401/11/dc3df89ab65d.gif

You mean it requires flash and doesn't work with HTML5? Yes Sir, you are absolutely right. As I told you earlier, the freeware KVS FLV Player plugin was written years before the HTML5 has became an essential standard. In other words: it's frickin old and I'm going to update it right today.

sicone 01-11-2014 02:52 AM

Awesome, was just looking for something exactly like this.

just a punk 01-11-2014 06:45 AM

BTW, here is a freeware version (works with both: Flash and HTML5) for those who want to try it first: http://wordpress.org/plugins/kvs-flv-player/ - the only limitation: there is no ad system there.

What happens if I want to use your player with a custom field?

that is why the shortcode api is handy, since you arent doing a shortcode using the api, you cant run do_shortcode on the get_post_meta, so if i want to use the player how would i use it with a custom field? unless you have a way of doing that.

not saying the plugin is bad or anything, just a matter of trying to use it with a wp custom field wont work, unless you can somehow apply_filters with the_content on the custom field?

:thumbsup

You can use a direct plugin API call. E.g.:

Code:

<?php KVSFlvInsert(get_post_meta($post->ID, "video_url_custom_field", true) . ' ' . get_post_meta($post->ID, "video_poster_custom_field", true)); ?>
I.e. just insert this code into your single.php and it will do the trick. Don't see any problem with that.

ahh ok cool ;)

Bought the plugin, and I like it BUT there's only one thing I don't like about it.

The embed code provided for others to grab and post the videos to their sites doesn't carry any of the branding or ads :(

Yep, this is how the KVS Player works. You can test it on the official Kernel Video Sharing site: http://www.kernel-video-sharing.com/...figure_en.html

So I would suggest you to just disable this option. Furthermore, the embedded object will not work on mobile devices.

You know, this question make me thinking and I improved the plugin. Now you can use the custom field names instead of the actual links right in shortcode (note this would be impossible with WP shortcode API). So, now video/preview can be embedded into a post just like this:

[flv:video_custom_field preview_custom_field]

where video_custom_field and preview_custom_field are WordPress custom field names. Very simple and illegal solution, isn't it? :winkwink:

just a punk 01-12-2014 08:43 AM

illegal => elegant LOL

really nice work... is the price per website or unlimited version (so I can use it on multiple sites)?

What's that?

just a punk 05-28-2015 08:53 AM

Core 1.0009 changes:
  • The "Show in iframe" option added. When enabled, the player will be shown in iframe. In this mode the embed codes will be also generated as iframes. So all your advertisements, branding and logos will be shown at 3rd-party websites.
  • The "Encode player" option added. When enabled, the player will be encoded. Use this option to hide your media (video file and preview image sources) from theft. This feature can be used as protection against scrappers and hotlinkers.

just a punk 05-29-2015 12:09 PM

Bump for those who have missed the post above. Make sure to update your copy of the plugin.

WOW very cool smart idea!! :thumbsup

Question, if they are using a dowloader program like DownloadThemAll, will they be able to see the download link of the files original location?

Sorry but no. It won't protect against the browser downloader plugins. In fact I don't really know of any good solution against them (even youtube is an easy target). The encoding feature will protect against scrappers and hotlinkers only, but when the browser starts showing the video, it get the actual URL, so there is no way to protect against the local (client-side) extensions.
