You work 8 hours a day. You sleep 8 hours a day.

You have less than 1/3 of your life to live, and you probably spend part of that in traffic driving to and from stuff.

J. Falcon 01-29-2014 09:51 AM

Don't forget eating, going to the bathroom, standing in line, getting dressed, etc.

Marcus Aurelius 01-29-2014 09:51 AM

There's no excuse for this kind of soul crushing existence in a post-industrial economy. It's the elites that keep us in this state of grinding servility.

If we had a rational economy, we could enjoy the same standard of living we do now with every able bodied adult working perhaps 15 or 20 hours a week.

You have to figure 75% of the work people do today is bullshit - most of it doesn't benefit anyone in any tangible way. A century ago, if a farmer stopped doing his job, SOMEONE was going to go hungry. If a laborer didn't labor, someone somewhere would do without something. What would happen if your local Starbucks shut down for the day? People might have to go to McDonalds for coffee instead? Most jobs nowadays are like that. Just endless bullshit that at most produces a slight increase in convenience by having such massive redundancy of everything, but at a cost of unfathomable waste.

I'm not saying I know how to create a rational economy or that such a thing is even humanly possible... it's just a trip thinking about how inefficient our civilization is and how wasteful it is, and how many people are deprived or overworked needlessly while so much production capacity idles and a tiny fraction of people become super wealthy.

I do not blame Usain Bolt for hogging the world 100m sprint record...he has NOTHING to do with my failure to sprint 100m in under 10 seconds...nothing at all...I accept full personal responsibility for my inability...

same goes for money...

wealth is a choice..I know many 3rd world people who made it, legally, and with hard work...not talking about billionaires but there are some of course (I do not know any personally but I know OF them)...so money and economy are not really a factor...

even being middle class and not having to work is completely possible...especially in insanely good economies like the US or 1st world...

the first step is working for yourself...

the second step is having enough $ to pay somebody to work instead of you...then you are free...

just do it :)

NaughtyRob 01-29-2014 10:33 AM

Work 8 hours per day. Hah! More like 12-14.

The system favors inheritance and privilege. If you are born in a rich family, you will be rich. If you're not, you might become rich, but chances are pretty damn good you will not. (Especially if you're born in places like Africa) Wealth has a lot more to do with luck than it does with choice.

Stop wasting your life sleeping so much.

Using meth takes a chunk out of sleep time.

I have probably already netted 2/3 of my life this way.

8 hours of sleep? I can count on my two hands the occasions when I had 8 hours sleep in a row since I am a dad.. :2 cents: :pimp

Ferus 01-29-2014 12:26 PM

I Work 5-8 hours a day, 5 days a week. But I love what I do at Work, so its more or less playtime for me. The rest of the time I work on my house/cars/wife or with the animals. The rest of the time I sleep... love to that as well :)

yuu.design 01-29-2014 02:01 PM

fitzmulti 01-29-2014 02:24 PM

It has to do with working for paper dollars with no value, the only reason dollars have value is because everyone uses them as if they do have true value but does a piece of paper that can be printed into oblivion really have any true value? NO

Now the people who print it, what's to stop them from printing a million here and a million there to buy what they want and do what they want? Meanwhile everyone else works and outputs sweat, talent , tears and energy to make those dollars while those goofs click a print button.

So I think the problem is the actual money being used here, it has no intrinsic value, if something like gold was used this couldn't happen. Just a thought..

And they'll be quick to 'trim the fat' as robotic systems continue taking over wage-slave functions in the product and service economies.

The middle class is getting monster fucked in this country by a variety of big dick tentacles. Obviously the Internet, robotics, outsourcing and all that. Plus the fact that inheritance used to be for more than just the super rich. Getting tricky now that everyone lives to be 80 or 90 years old and fucking retires at 55. Grandma burns up all her savings on extreme measures medical care, her children and grandchildren get nothing.

Longer lifespans are great. But they have big consequences. Used to be dad would run the hardware store until he was 50, then have a nice heart attack and let his 30 year old son become manager. Then dad's second heart attack at 60 would kill him and the son became owner of the store. Rinse and repeat.

40 hour work week are for wusses. 60 is the new 40. Get back to work so I don't feel so bad.

John-ACWM 01-30-2014 01:40 AM

8 hours of sleep is more than enough.

Simply wrong on so many levels. Don't even know where to start.

Anyone who thinks working more and sleeping less is an intelligent choice, read up on some of the illnesses caused by sleep deprivation.

CaptainHowdy 01-30-2014 06:01 AM

And if you do like most of the people don't, you can do what you like and enjoy working, so you have 16 hours of enjoyment.

There's a reason why you need 8 hours of sleep.

If you don't exercise much or put a lot of physical tear on your body you can get by with 6-7 for a while but anything less than 6 is deprivation.

I'm usually skeptical of people that say they get by on 5-6 hours of sleep. Most people don't mention the naps they catch or the long catchup sleep on certain days.

Get the sleep you need and cut the unnecessary crap out of your day.

iwiiiiiiiiii 02-07-2014 03:36 PM

I'm training for an Ironman and, when I train hard I need to sleep less (7 hours). When I'm inactive, I need to sleep my 8 hours, otherwise I'm crashed. So really, saying we have no time to train is bs, you could take 4 hours a week easily.

Do something you love and suddenly nothing is "work".

I dread some of my leisure activities more than my daily "grind".

They gym - always using work as an excuse not to go.
