For Those Who Wanted to Know About the Google Feb 6h Update

Not that I believe any of this bullshit but if you read it, it's about sites being punished that have ads 'above the fold'

In other forums I've read about people who got hit who had no ads above the fold and some who got hit who had no ads period!

I just posted this so you'll know it's another google attack - I mean update. You likely didn't do anything wrong and don't have to change your sites.

They encourage you to have Google Ads above the fold...

Just out of curiosity, where is the fold these days?....

Google would say the fold is just below where the content should be. A very vague reply which suits them fine.

I'd say it's where the bottom of your browser is when you first open a webpage.

I have always thought 'above the fold' was what you see before scrolling - It is very vague...

"Rather than scrolling down the page past a slew of ads, users want to see content right away. So sites that don?t have much content ?above-the-fold? can be affected by this change. If you click on a website and the part of the website you see first either doesn?t have a lot of visible content above-the-fold or dedicates a large fraction of the site?s initial screen real estate to ads, that?s not a very good user experience. Such sites may not rank as highly going forward." SOURCE

Good info

I read this:

A quick notice on the new Google penalty.

Last week Google started issuing a new manual penalty targeting rich snippets.

They target websites that use rich snippets in a black-hat, spam-like manner.

I guess the G+ thing got out of hand.

The Heron 02-12-2014 09:17 PM

that's weird, when I use google the ads are above the fold... must be a bug!

PornDiscounts-V 02-12-2014 11:37 PM

Only effects you when the top 500 to 700 pixels are devoted to ads our any other not content spaces. Will effect less than one percent of sites. Mostly black hat sites that hid the content under ads.

You get to the stage you don't know what to think anymore. My sites were hit again and I don't have any ads.
I actually linked my google+, perhaps that caused an issue.

Of course THEY can break their own rules. And oddly enough, not many have the balls to call them out on it.

I have a G +1 button, unsure if this helped ever.

Someone should point this out to them.

pinkz 02-13-2014 09:37 AM

Gewgul has and always will do whatever the fuck they want, get over it and move on, find alternative traffic sources. Stop using G you are only feeding their monster.

incredibleworkethic 02-14-2014 01:32 AM

hmmm... i had a period with traffic increased by 400%, then down back to the original traffic in 7 days.

I ranked well for targeted keywords, then all the sudden none.

Google going for a crazy dance? :)
