Using Wordpress for adult?
I want to see your adult sites using Wordpress. Let me see your own sites or sites you've seen that use it. I'm more interested in something more on the 'large thumb view' look than 'long text blog post' look.
Show me stuff that you think really excels. Not really interested in member sites at the moment. Loads of people using WP for adult sites so let's see them. |
www.awmzone.com/sites-for-sale - most of my sites listed there for sale are made in WP...

Wordpress is truly a terrible platform to build websites on. It's literally a blogging system. Now, it's grown to be huge in the past 5 years and they've tried to market it as a true CMS for websites, but in the end it's really not. It has a terrible code base and API, and it doesn't adhere to the proper standards most enterprise systems stick to.
Now, I've worked on two wordpress websites that were $250k+ to develop (I've worked on many others as well but not to the scale of those two). Both were done by one of the largest wordpress agencies in the country. They were great sites and they ran and functioned well. However in both cases you can tell just how much wordpress had to be tweaked to work as the CMS for the site, and to meet the requirements specification. I bring this up because while there are some very serious wordpress development agencies out there building fantastic sites in wordpress (big ones, and very expensive ones) -- in every case wordpress has had to be "manipulated" to function as needed. That is not the way software is supposed to work. The push in the last few years to represent WP as an enterprise solution, or to make it appear as a viable CMS platform -- is in the simplest of terms a facade. They so easily have done so because it is such a turn key system that was easily accessible to the masses. |
I have a small blog network tha'ts growing. Message me.

First and foremost, don't get what I'm about to say wrong because I'm not a WP fanatic. I'm actually looking to start moving our stuff away from WP when I have time due to it -- in my opinion -- following the same path joomla went down in becoming a heavy footprint, bloated piece of software. That being said, the whole point of development, and especially with open source, is to build something. WP is just the core of what you're building upon, a frame if you will. And unless you write your own CMS from the ground up that includes everything you want and/or need, then it doesn't matter what base platform you decide to use; they'll all need to be 'tweaked'. The biggest reason for WP's success, imho, is due to the substantial community behind it, there is a ton of development activity, and the documentation is quite well done. So it makes sense that a lot of people would flock to it, regardless of whether it's being used as a blogging platform, a 'true' cms, or anything in between. Now, this isn't to say that WP is the best choice out there, but it's a popular one, and for good reason. As for the OP, we use WP on all of our sites, http://asiansexdiary.com (members area only), http://trikepatrol.com/ and http://tuktukpatrol.com/ At the end of the day though, as I said earlier, I'm looking to move our stuff away from WP when I have time to rewrite everything. I'm liking a lot of what I see with concrete5 but haven't really had time to sit down and decide. |

Wordpress has tried to do this -- but in the end it's just one giant, bloated, hacked to shit, bundle of poorly written code. They've been trying, or I should say hoping to wrap things up and change that - however most *real* developers in the open-source realm have already dropped them and started to move on. It's going to take years for WP to ever come back from what it is now and join the rest of the open-source world. A lot of people don't even think it's going to be possible. The rest of the crowd is already light years ahead of WP's code base, and not only that the big ones are continually changing and growing to become even more object-oriented API packs. By the time WP could ever restructure itself and get with the times, it'd likely then again just be behind the times in comparison to the rest of the frameworks. I loved wordpress years ago. However their popularity by having a turn-key website solution is what killed them. The lack of vision for where the open-source community was heading, coupled with the incredibility poor code standards carved the path that is now a sinking ship because of its popularity. They built a boat that could barely float and the captain looked only to getting people onboard as opposed to its seaworthiness. Its now going to be a near impossible task to make improvements with the load of passengers it has. Hell, even PHP itself is on its way out. It won't be for a long long time, and as someone who is 31 who has been developing in PHP now for 16 years -- it's not really something I'll have to worry about in my developing lifetime (By the time it comes I hopefully won't be developing any more). But its still something I've accepted being in this industry and knowing where things are heading. |
Drupal is becoming quite popular with the Corporate America.

Wordpress is the only one for adult:thumbsup

On the payments side...WP seems to have only a few options for handling billers. I worked with a few WP based sites now and they all ended up being custom coded integrations. IF you have the skills or pay someone who does may not be an issue..

Check out my site HDhighresporn.com
It is wordpress. I had to HEAVILY edit the code to get it to work efficiently (That was hard, because I don't know PHP.) I used a template at first, then customized the hell out of it and am still tweaking things here and there, but check it out. |

WP site hosted on a VPS - sounds similar to what OP described, not sure if it really qualifies as high traffic though (150-200k/mo)
homepage load: http://i.imgur.com/ymJulCQ.jpg avg video page load: http://i.imgur.com/92WRHIw.jpg uses ajax to load more vids on tour pages too, to minimize thumbs loaded on initial view |
We have a couple of Wordpress powered sites in our network, one of which gets well over 1 million uniques per month. MRTG stats for January are:
Max Out: 159.02 Mb/s 95% Out: 25.92Mb/s Certainly we do not use underpowered or bare bones servers, and of course take advantage of caching and static asset management. But the site is quick. Having said that, I agree WordPress is not that efficient. Beyond the obvious advantages of caching and asset management, one of the things I also find important is reduce -- or better yet eliminate -- dependency on third party plugins. Most of the issues surrounding issues with upgrades of WordPress are generally due to dependency on third party plugins for functionality. The same goes for themes. |
i've been asking for years for an alternative that loads a bit faster, but the only answer is GO CUSTOM.
but not everyone has the funds to get a custom system built and maintained. sooooo wordpress or other cms's are the cheaper alternative. use wordpress or a tube script. i only use wordpress and Mech Bunny and Trade Expert. before that, I would use JMBSoft's work, but he left the scene so no new updates like GB's no new taxes! |
I had to use WordPress, since it was the cheapest alternative for my needs. And since then I'm using it for my members area.
Since you don't need "members" area sites - I'm inviting you to take a look at my blog - which is on the same site - and take a look at it. Basically I do have 2 blogs - one for the members and one for visitors/surfers, where I'm showing updates. |
you can make wordpress look like anything. checkout my sig.

WP is dangerous!

Almost 20% of the internet is Wordpress, you can look it up. Most of the domains hosted with us are adult Wordpress blogs. It is easy to install, easy to use, easy to customize and modify. Joomla and Drupal are more functional and better suited as large portals and heavy webshops, especially Drupal, but Wordpress keeps growing in the right direction without losing its ease of use.
|
Our paysites are wordpress.
The possibilities are endless if you are willing to do some googling for examples of anything you can think of doing. There's a few people here selling & giving plugins all the time for anything adult-related you can think of, too. |
See sig ;)
