As long as they keep us safe, it's ok for the government to watch everything that everyone does....
NOT!!
Meanwhile... http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...internet-yahoo "Britain's surveillance agency GCHQ, with aid from the US National Security Agency, intercepted and stored the webcam images of millions of internet users not suspected of wrongdoing, secret documents reveal. GCHQ files dating between 2008 and 2010 explicitly state that a surveillance program codenamed Optic Nerve collected still images of Yahoo webcam chats in bulk and saved them to agency databases, regardless of whether individual users were an intelligence target or not. In one six-month period in 2008 alone, the agency collected webcam imagery ? including substantial quantities of sexually explicit communications ? from more than 1.8 million Yahoo user accounts globally. Yahoo reacted furiously to the webcam interception when approached by the Guardian. The company denied any prior knowledge of the program, accusing the agencies of "a whole new level of violation of our users' privacy". GCHQ does not have the technical means to make sure no images of UK or US citizens are collected and stored by the system, and there are no restrictions under UK law to prevent Americans' images being accessed by British analysts without an individual warrant. The documents also chronicle GCHQ's sustained struggle to keep the large store of sexually explicit imagery collected by Optic Nerve away from the eyes of its staff, though there is little discussion about the privacy implications of storing this material in the first place".......... ____________ (I stole this from Z, who posted this morning) "What have you done in front of your smartphone or computer that you wouldn't want your parents, boss or spouse to see? What have you taken pictures and video of and saved...or sent to someone? You're crazy Z, they would never want what's on my laptop or phone cam. They can't turn my camera on remotely anytime, can they? Hold on, what about every single word I say within range of the microphone in all my digital devices, now including all televisions, some appliances, xboxs, playstations, cute little samsung smart watches and soon Google and all the other surveillance and lifestreaming glasses and contact lenses that are being rolled out as we speak - More every single day. Even with the battery out? They can still record it? But how? --- Doesn't really matter how, does it? Sure, you're right, you're a good person...ish. They wouldn't really care about you. Oh ya, until they do. So Orwell got the year wrong...it still ended in 4." :disgust:Oh crap:(:disgust:Oh crap:(:mad: . |
No one cares, society is full of cowards and they know that.
|
I know - it seems like we're past the "can I do something about it" stage.

stolen from the comments:
"Who cares if GCHQ have been reading my emails. Meta data is no big deal. I have nothing to hide. It's not like they're peering into my home when I'm naked or anything." "Oh." ===================== I'll leave you all to come up with the person on this board that immediately springs to mind :winkwink: |

Honestly, I was surprised Yahoo had some kind of web-cam feature. I haven't looked at a yahoo page since 2005.
|
I honestly don't care.
I have nothing to hide from anyone. My text messages are mostly about dinner plans, weekend plans, and my wife and I figuring out who is going to pick up our kid. My email is pretty much work related, and my personal email must be utterly boring.... Other than the fact that I own firearms and money spread out in half a dozen banks, I am rather boring to the government or law enforcement. We all worry about what our government has on us so far as personal information, yet we don't give a rat's ass about what Google knows about us - which must be staggering. And if the police believe you are involved in a crime, all they need is a search warrant and they'll know everything about you anyhow so it's pretty much irrelavant... |

Anything you say or do online will be held against you in a court of law :Oh crap
I can't help but fear that there is going to be a very brutal, oppressive future ahead for all of us :( |
How about disconnecting your webcam when you're not using it? Wow, what a novel idea.
I'm not sure I mind them having cameras everywhere, in parks etc. The notion that the authorities can get vid proof on a mugger or rapist can't be a bad thing. If it means you're always being watched while taking your mornng jog so be it. But this webcam thing? That's another matter entirely. Every past and existing member of GFY should turn on their cams and place an upright picturs of their wide open fat hairy webmaster asses in front of it and leave them there. I'm sure this surveillance operation would cease to exist inside of a week. |

I do unplug my webcam from my workstation or laptop when not using it. My iPad and phone don't offer that option though. Also, my ass might be fat and webmaster, but it is not wide open or hairy. |

Let's not forget that cell phones have GPS enabled. It would be very easy for the government to know where you are at all times and associate you with the people around you. Thus guilt by association.
I could imagine in the not so distant future, cops using GPS info against speeding drivers. |
