Blogs Business Thread

How are blogs doing for you in 2014?

Do you seem to make more money off the sale of the membership your blog is geared towards or do you find yourself making more money off sidebar ads or live cam popups?

If you don't want to answer, I'm okay with that. ;)

ITraffic 03-01-2014 10:25 PM

Still worth having, although not nearly as profitable as 2009 or so.

I've been tracing sales since 2006 or so and you can see where it died, but it's been coming back very slowly and holding.

I work on my blogs late at night while watching Netflix, which means.... I watch an hour of TV and do two or three updates.

Thanks for the response. Appreciated.

Question. Your big site has a ton of posts, do you find that you need to make many new ones to keep your sales or do your other posts hold their own?

I don't plan on blogging little and stopping.

I've made the majority of my income writing for other people but I figure when I'm in between clients I could start my own stuff for once.

I like your site :)

Adapt or you'll die before 2015.

Captain Kawaii 03-02-2014 12:15 AM

If you can write and know your niche. ok.
generic pornblogs, dead before they started.

kane 03-02-2014 12:59 AM

TGPs are the new blogs...

More seriously, blogs can still do well. Google likes Wordpress. Like Captain says, if you can provide unique, interesting content they can make money. If you are just hoping to build it, throw up a few pics and make money it won't.

google hasn't ranked blogs for anything worthwhile since penguin / panda ie: 2011. if anything nowadays a blog is a sure route to nowhere as far as google goes.

even if you luck out and get some google love for your blog it wont stick for any length of time.

if you really want to go that route you have to think outside of the box traffic wise, use social media to drive traffic to it, unless you make the very rare site with amazing viral content like efukt.

We're talking about real blogs. Ones that do not need DMCA link. I think efukt is clever but it is mostly stolen/pirated content. When I visit, that is all it is.

You have to update with new content at least monthly. I have a plug in that automatically rotates posts so it looks like it's update a lot more often than it is, but I've noticed that if I don't update at least twice a month traffic (and sales) go down.

rockeru 03-02-2014 12:38 PM

My self hosted video blogs are converting very well :2 cents:

While I don't have any big blogs that rank well for any huge keywords, I have several that rank very well for some specific keywords and longtail keywords. I'm not getting 100K traffic a day to them, but they are doing okay and slowly growing.

Getting any major keywords away from tubes would be a huge undertaking for any site not just a blog.

anexsia 03-02-2014 06:05 PM

I still do really well with blogs...blogs are stronger then ever but honestly it doesn't matter if your doing blogs, tgps, freesites - the only thing the visitor cares about is seeing porn!

mineistaken 03-02-2014 06:26 PM

Blogs in 2014 does not worse than in 2013. To all the "it is 2014" crowd :)

oppoten 03-02-2014 06:46 PM

efukt looks like shit. But whatever.

Any more examples of Google-approved blogs? All I see is tumblr.

for what terms?

My main blog ranks for various terms like femjoy, met-art and so on. When I say ranks, I mean getting around 6k visits per day from google

That's really good actually. What's your domain if you care to share?

That's a good idea. Thanks, PM me if you'd like.

femdomdestiny 03-04-2014 01:08 PM

blogs work fine. They are stable even if you don't update them once you start getting traffic.Need to know niche and don't expect much traffic per site, but network of niche blogs will bring money and conversions are stable for last few years.

dehash 03-04-2014 01:20 PM

Can anybody show me porn blog where owner "knows niche"? I saw this phrase "if you know niche" many times, but never could say right away by reading couple posts: "fuck, this is it, dude knows this niche!". All I see is standard pic/scene descriptions - some with good english, some not. Someone just left good point (may be even in this thread) - your texts are not so important, content is the key (unless it is sexstories site) - pictures, videos.

incredibleworkethic 03-04-2014 01:33 PM

For Ex: Try explaining the BDSM niche in blog posts but not knowing that a lot of the things that turn people on are the psychological factors that make the scene hot.

There's a different between saying: Watch this girl get whipped and flogged trying to please her master.

And: As she's getting whipped and flogged, she's reminded what a low level piece of trash she is. All she wants to do is please and gain her master's approval and taking a beating like this is just another thing she can do to help her get one step closer.

I may not know it exactly like others do but I know there's a difference in writing between people that know the niche and people that don't.

PornDiscounts-V 03-04-2014 02:09 PM

Very true. To actually get sales you posts have to speak to the intended viewer and not to the Googlebot.

pegginglovers 03-11-2014 08:24 PM

Indeed write for the reader; not the bot.

wordpress and tumblr are still good. blogger doesn't even appear in results on our side.
