can never get caught up with stuff..

I prolly sound like a whiney little cunt, but anybody else feel like they can never get caught up with stuff ? no matter how many times I try to wind down, and take it ez for the day...the next day i'm wired up all over again...coffee galore...and neeeding to do a million things.

yet my attention gets diverted off of work like a thousand times a day.... looking at other sites...watching CNN to get the latest news on the plane....checking my cell phone....social media... I just can't get sht done anymore.

i'm a guy in his 30's....never had ADHD, but feel like maybe I need to try Adderall or something...so I can concentrate on 1 thing at a time..

any others feel the same ? talking about it helps....but i'm practically just blaming the internet. :-/

if you've never tried it, make a to-do list, with pen & paper, and have it next to your keyboard. It really does work in keeping you away from those 101 other unproductive things you end up doing online, despite my own huge scepticism that it would.

start out with 6 things, most important thing top of the list. Gl :)

kane 03-17-2014 05:21 PM

I used to have that problem.

I created a solution that works for me.

I used a countdown timer. I will set it for 50 minutes and then start it. I will work hard, forcing myself to focus on the task at hand for those 50 minutes then I will take a 10 minute break, check email, read the news, piss, get water, flog my dong, whatever. As the next hour starts I set it for another 50 minutes and get back at it.

It helps you stay focused and gives you a small reward for working for that hour.

tried this also, though it didn't work for me, reason I mention that is if you decide to try any suggestions in this thread as it unfolds, don't then disregard them all - try another suggestion. You'll most likely find one that works, and when it does and you see productivity soar, you'll be so glad you did :thumbsup

yes, it really really does (or one of the others will) - I am *exactly* the same, my attention span is extraordinarily low, it's like I have to feed my brain some activity. I was genuinely amazed something that appeared so simple, and also so BS sounding, worked wonders. Took me a few days, maybe a week or so to get myself in the habit, but it's up there in the top 5 biz practices I've ever utilised.

I make a list, knock a few things out but then add a few more so yeah it never ends. Honestly wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had nothing to do. Brain always working and always trying to expand/improve. Would need the internet to die. :2 cents:

Actually you are experiencing a generation-wide phenomenon for people between the ages of 18-40. I call it 'technology overload' and you described it perfectly. It's not that you have ADD (or whatever it's called now), it's more like you're juggling 15 balls and are constantly worried you're dropping one of them. As more and more "balls" are thrown your way (Twitter, the latest smart phone, some cool app or Linked In or whatever) you feel a kind of panic. There's no way of "dealing" with that except in these two ways:

1. Become a great juggler
2. Disconnect.

Simply STOP. The Internet will continue, you won't really miss anything that a 20 minute catch-up read won't fix and you can simply stop giving a shit man. Who the fuck cares about this or that? Focus on what makes you happy and what you have to do. It's the only way.

But if you're commited to "staying connected" then this is a great solution:

I do this often. Just disconnect everything - laptop, smartphone, tablet. Then I pack the Nikon and the Raleigh mountain bike in the truck and head out to a few local trails for a few hours. Fresh air, scenery...flora/fauna, exercise (and if you're lucky - maybe a few good photos along the way).

I always get back feeling refreshed, mind much more clear...revitalized. Great for shedding stress.

I see the technology overload thing in my two nieces. One is 16 and one is 12 and they can't function doing one thing at a time. The other day I was over there hanging with my brother and watching a movie. The oldest girl was watching the movie, then would get on her phone, then she walked over to her laptop for a second, then back to the movie, then phone. Meanwhile she is doing all of this with one headphone plugged in so she can listen to music while all this is happening.

When the movie was over she asked me why it ended that way and I told her had she actually watched it instead of doing six things at the same time she would have understood. She looked at me like I was crazy and she had no idea what I was talking about.

This is actually what terrifies me about "the future". I am young enough (mid-forties) to (hopefully) be here in 20-30 years when your niece's generation takes over and controls everything.

I predict chaos and a lot of crying. LOL

I am int he same place. I am 42. I could easily live another 40+ years. While the idea of the future intrigues me, I am also worried about the current generation that will be guiding it.

Luckily, at least in the case of my oldest niece, she has a good head on her shoulders, is smart and when she wants to focus on things she can do a good job at them. She also has realistic goals for herself. She wants to be be a Vet, not a rock star or a model. However, I also have a 20-year-old nephew that is starting a solid career on the wrong side of the criminal justice system.

It may sound strange and simple, but do this: Create a list of things you have to do, and check off each item. As new things come around, always add them to the bottom of the list so you do things in-order. If something is a priority, make sure its a real priority before changing your to-do list around.

A simple checklist, even using pen and paper, can really help.

I've got too many checklists.

my biggest problem is I own around 50 sites..about 35 of them are adult. And about all of them make no money. So, i'm bustin my ballz everyday for nothing...or just to increase my stress load. And to hope Google starts increasing my keyword traffic again. So many of us live and die by the swwwwword. (Google)

then we gotta worry about Google doing another Penguin update every other friggin day.

the stress = never ending.

If only some of these sites would start taking off and making money, it would ease the burden tremendously.

I was doing really good 10 years ago....money was no problem...life was awesome. man, how I friggin dread for those days again. It really is true, when you got a sh!tload of money....your life's stresses are almost nothing, your health improves, you get pu55y like crazy, you start glowing towards the world....everything is easy...and people gravitate towards you...

then there's times like now, where everything is sh!t.

New, Facebook, and GFY suck me in every time. I have to limit them all really.

I went a good stretch without GFY a few weeks ago.

Pen and paper lists still exist when everything electronic is switched off so are never going to distract you into wasting time when you think of something you need to add to it.

Set deadlines - and stick to them.

I have always got much more work done per hour during the evening. Can go out during the day and do something that doesn't require being connected or available then get work done once its dark.

That's good to hear about your niece. Maybe (hopefully), in the end, her generation will surprise all of us and be healthier and better together than any since The Greatest Generation. I certainly hope so.

Bummer about the nephew but maybe he will learn his lesson and move towards a better life. He's still very young so time to correct mistakes. Fingers crossed, eh? :)

I hear ya man, I really do. I run 33 paysites, a network, a Program, with a fuckload more to come (stay tuned as they say...) and not all make money. Some do, some don't, so I consider myself very lucky. But I absolutely know the frustration of working a site, seemingly to death, and getting almost nothing out of it. It's a killer.

But things ARE cyclical so maybe this means the next phase of your life will be killer again. Like waves on the shore, they come and go, so do the phases of our life (God I hope that isn't from some soap opera...).

Oh - and here I am, checking in with GFY at 2:30 am after a long day of work (13 hours). So who am I to talk right? Good luck man. :)

I see your problem, you are depending on google and especially with adult sites this is a lost cause. Have you noticed porn related keywords show mainstream sites the last couple of years? This is still growing. Porn gets weeded out of the results, the only keywords that are still working are obvious porn keywords. My guess is more than 50% of porn keywords turned mainstream, thats a hell of a lot traffic that goes to mainstream sites now.
Search for blowjob, pussy, etc etc. If you don't type 'porn' next to it it's all mainstream.

john1975 03-18-2014 09:55 AM

thx for attempting to understand...I guess.

it's weird...when I wake up with full of energy at weird times, I seem to get a ton completed then as well. example, I fall asleep at 7pm...and wake up full energy at 3am. When things aren't routine, I feel like doing them more. so yea, I got a lot done from 3am to 6am.

nico-t, you're right. More of my adult traffic is from Bing or Baidu . (the one in china, where their not suppose to be able to search for porn) Maybe one of the Penguin updates will bring back adult traffic to not just 'mainstream' sites. been a little more google-lucky lately with live cam traffic.

Porn Nerd....I know dude. I keep buying new domains for cheap...hoping they'll eventually turn into something. (by converting them into blog sites with unique content / descriptions) ...also buying cam sites for cheap...and white-labeling them out.

Day-to-day...i can't tell if i'm winnin or losin.

If I ever get a heart attack...i'll know what's to blame.

Markul 03-18-2014 11:23 AM

John are you getting any exorcise? As it has been suggested, that is something that really helps.

Also look at your sleep patterns, are you being interrupted at night? Do you watch TV or stare at a monitor right before you go to bed. Try getting all electronics out of the bedroom and see if that helps.

And last but certainly not least is what you are eating, if you have a high intake of pre-processed foods you should consider swapping to a healthier diet.

Also something as simple as too much sugar can cause all the problems you are listing.

Well I don't like to hear heart attack talk man. NOTHNG is worth your life.

What I would consider is setting some Goals that do not include Adult. Maybe 'mainstream' websites or even something non-Internet-related, at least for awhile. I don't know you or your 'situation" so don't know how desperate/reliant you are on your current employment. But I DO know one thing: working harder and getting less and less return for your effort is a recipe for a heart attack, mistery and eventual total failure. So do your best to prevent all that and if working harder isn't doing it for you then try working 'smarter'. In other words, find ANYthing else short-term that will help and give you a break from the endless stress.

Best of luck man!!

DMT will just make everything worse and give you some extra delusions. It doesn't fix anything, it just throws your issues back at you followed by a sledge hammer.

Instead. A proven 100% effective way to reset clock.

GO OUTSIDE!
GO CAMPING FOR A WEEK! (or 3)

calm within the storm, I guess.

I highly recommend trying Ayahuasca. Just be careful who's running the ceremony and where it's done. It IS NOT legal in most countries, certainly not in the US - but it has remained in a gray area and isn't usually prosecuted when used in a true Entheogen context.

It can be life-altering - it was for me. And I achieved heightened clarity for about 10 days after the ceremony - and a real feeling of calmness. I felt "reset". But it's not like that for everyone and you have to take it seriously, including the diet leading 2 weeks before the ceremony.

Good luck brother!

you just made me feel like wantin to try it...even more.

They say u can legally buy all the ingredients 1 by 1 on amazon... only 'creating' it...or having possession of the final completed mix is illegal.

I heard Indian mosques (or whatever) here in the U.S. can legally do it...for celebration purposes or something. I'm not indian, but maybe i'll go to one...one day to get my groove on for the day. chillin with the indians. (hello, my friend...how are uuu today)

they need to legalize this crap...since it's benefits seem better and more cleansing than ever weed. People that go down to Peru, sometimes don't even wanna come back. (it's that good)

doesn't that wall street guy look just like ba ba boey...?

You can buy the ingredients legally. I have. I was not, however, able to produce a batch of ayahuasca, even though there are tons of recipes out there.

As far as the legality of a real ceremony - yes, the rulings have favored the usage when it's done as a religious ceremony.

"The legal status in the United States of DMT-containing plants is somewhat questionable. Ayahuasca plants and preparations are legal, as they contain no scheduled chemicals. However, brews made using DMT containing plants are illegal since DMT is a Schedule I drug. That said, some people are challenging this, using arguments similar to those used by peyotist religious sects, such as the Native American Church. A court case allowing the União do Vegetal to import and use the tea for religious purposes in the United States, Gonzales v. O Centro Espirita Beneficente Uniao do Vegetal, was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court on November 1, 2005; the decision, released February 21, 2006, allows the UDV to use the tea in its ceremonies pursuant to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. In a similar case an Ashland, Oregon based Santo Daime church sued for their right to import and consume ayahuasca tea. In March 2009, U.S. District Court Judge Panner ruled in favor of the Santo Daime, acknowledging its protection from prosecution under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act."

All to say, try it if you get a chance - I hope it works out for you.

would be cool if they had a state-by-state location areas that do the ceremonies. (like Pennsylvania)

but if I gotta dress up in some funny outfit for it......fo'gettabouddit'

I guess that's the whole point of the list. It shouldn't end, you add at the bottom, and cross out those things you've already done. At the same time, you can put notes on re-scheduling.

At some point you have to review your daily notes. You should see which have been rescheduled and see what you have crossed out. Give yourself a pat on the back for those items you crossed out.

Just in case you're tempted to use a computer for your to-do list, go in the other direction and get a board and marker. At least that would give you a reason to stand up and take a look at your accomplishments.
