But still... no pics?

I'm a sad JFK fan...

:D

Rochard 03-24-2014 01:57 PM

$7k for a camera? Seriously?

I know you are a photographer and all, but what can this camera do that my D70s cannot?

Antonio 03-24-2014 01:58 PM

For $7,149.95 it better give blowjobs ... then again, I have no idea what high end cameras cost, I use my cellphone to take pictures.

RyuLion 03-24-2014 02:02 PM

Congratz man! See u there!

You're buying FPS. The Canon top shooter is around the same price

That's a sweet sound :)

PornDude 03-24-2014 02:23 PM

Good for you JFK.

mineistaken 03-24-2014 02:35 PM

Looks like serious hardware.

I am sure it is not a serious question ;) but for starters one can shoot with many less lights ($1000s if you shoot HMIs) on location with the Nikon D4s. And it can also shoot slo-mo video. Not to mention the build quality is much much higher :)

And you need this why? If you are a sports photographer I could see it, in fact, it would be freaking awesome. But for what JFK does and what the vast majority of us do I think it would be overkill.

I don't mean to be a dick or anything, just... I'm not the type of person who has to run out and have the newest thing every time it comes out.

Some people are. That's what makes the world go round and new things come out and prices to drop :) And if you can afford it, why not? Why do you need an Iphone when any cheap android will do? Why do you need a Mercedes when a Toyota will get you from point A to point B? Why do some photographers choose Prophoto when AlienBees will get you by?

Juicy D. Links 03-24-2014 04:07 PM

that camera would easily make my dick look over 6 inches

Rumbledog 03-24-2014 04:18 PM

Canon 1Dx is far superior still. 13fps and better over all color.

SilentKnight 03-24-2014 04:21 PM

Sweet rig.

I'd have trouble justifying the expenditure to the wife, though.

It's not a matter of need , it's a matter of want :2 cents::winkwink:

My guess is, he wanted to spend the money. He sure as hell has ZERO "need" for it. Any bottom of the line Nikon or Canon DSLR would would perfectly for what JFK does. If he wants to spend money on it, good for him. :)

SilentKnight 03-24-2014 06:27 PM

JFK, just curious - what are you upgrading from (if you don't mind me askin').

When I went with a Nikon D80, I was upgrading from an Olympus e10 (my first DSLR) - which, at the time was quite a leap in quality - all things considered.

phasic 03-24-2014 06:46 PM

Nice, saw one of these at the roller derby tournament last night. I was getting a boner over the camera more than those man-girls.

Q: If you saw a drowning person and you had to choose between saving the person or capturing the moment, what aperture would you use? :Graucho

Have a D800 with a lot of miles on it:winkwink: D700 as a back up. The 700 is getting phased out, D800 will be the new back up. Been waiting for a new Pro-Am camera to come out, nothing on the horizon. In the past I didn't want to spend the money on the top end, but, I saw a couple of people having the D4 admired the features and the speed. So here we are. Yes, it is too much camera for what I do, but what ever, I will just have to make do :Graucho :1orglaugh:thumbsup

Which reminds me...my rapidly aging D80 is getting a lot of miles on it, too.

Maybe I'll convince her a sensor array cleaning on the D80 will cost me $8k - and the D4 would be the more cost-efficient option.

Probably not. :1orglaugh

So just for speed? Can you make two pics - one with regular 700$ camera and one with 7,000$ camera? I just want to see what the difference.

Lars_Cash 03-25-2014 08:34 AM

Damn, if the new baby is faster - those moments would be even shorter... :(

I remember "back in the day" (a previous chapter in my Walter Mitty Life) when I was one of the first to acquire a New Nikon F3 HP for my photo business. Because I owned a One Hour Photo Lab and a Custom Photo Lab, as well as being a commercial photographer that specialized in product shots and model portfolios, it was expected of me to be a "Cut Above" the 'average' so called photographer. The Top of the line Cameras and most recognizable (and unaffordable) were always cutting edge Nikons with the legendary Nikkor Lenses. So, when a potential customer came to my office to contract a job, the Nikons were always in full view (as well as my calling card, a Mamiya RZ67 with all the bells and whistles).
My point is: If you are going to be the best, you need to use the best. (there are exceptions, I am speaking in general terms here). Back in my day, Nikon was the best. If JFK feels he can take better pictures with quicker response times, and wants the best model he is comfortable with, and takes his business seriously, the Nikon D4 is worth every penny he pays for it.
Comparisons are a waste of time because half the battle is being comfortable with your equipment, whether you are golfing, racing, or taking pictures of people.
Have fun in Phoenix JFK.
