Admit it, who's still on Windows XP?

I eventually moved up to Windows 7 a few months back, things are going well, all my old software works. :thumbsup

I see Microsoft are giving 100 Bucks credit if you upgrade now :2 cents:

Microsoft offers users $100 credit on a new PC to switch from XP

P.S. Anyone who mentions Windows 8 will be banned from the forum.

i'm already using win 8.1 from last year, at the beginning you will hate it, even if you come from win 7 but, after a while, you will understand that is more better, even for desktop tasks.

That's usually how it always works, bitching, then you just get used to it or it is better.

fetishwealth 03-25-2014 09:04 AM

I have 3 machines that still use it at home.

Also, 8 is the same thing as 7 with a few bells and whistles added ontop.

Rochard 03-25-2014 09:39 AM

We have all Windows 7 here.... I'm good.

Windows 7 is pretty much trouble free for me. I am running three monitors on my machine here with no issues. Never had a blue screen of death on this machine or anything.

Wellness Cash 03-25-2014 09:48 AM

I'm using Win8 and honestly, have no issues with it, other than its not actually letting me upgrade to 8.1 even though the 'upgrade' message shows up nearly every time I restart my laptop lol

Horny Dude 03-25-2014 09:52 AM

Windows XP, shit I'm still running Windows 98. Been thinking of upgrading to XP anyone have a copy??

Wife's old Sony laptop still runs xp.. I'm just waiting for the laptop to die before getting her a new one, but it's refusing. 8 years for a laptop is good going. She's attached to it, will only get a new one when it dies.

Cherry7 03-25-2014 10:09 AM

Keep paying for an operating system that never works properly...

When will we have an operating system that works?

mavruda 03-25-2014 11:04 AM

I'm with WinXP.

flashfire 03-25-2014 11:06 AM

I dont use it on my main system but I do for other projects

mame cabinet ect. runs like a dream

PornDiscounts-V 03-25-2014 11:07 AM

Got one system on it. Always to busy to upgrade it and then when I'm on it I am usually using it to do something.

Klen 03-25-2014 11:07 AM

I have unused win xp licence,i cant use it as it's 32 bit version and it need to be 64bit to utilize all memory. That is why i have win7 instead.Tho i would return to winxp at any time.

cosis 03-25-2014 11:28 AM

I finally retired it a couple months ago.

The Porn Nerd 03-25-2014 11:43 AM

Had to buy a new laptop recently and my only options were Windows 8. I could buy a used Win 7 machine, or have an XP machine built for me, but wtf man.

XP is still the best, that's why it won't die. Microsoft should stfu and support XP again fuckers.

stoka 03-25-2014 12:39 PM

we have xp on all 4 office computers

we are also still using old (cca 10 years) corel and photoshop versions, which are very stable and very fast and more than fine for logo and banner design

oppoten 03-25-2014 01:16 PM

XP and 7 here. Will give 8 a try when I can be bothered to upgrade.

signupdamnit 03-25-2014 01:26 PM

I think it can still work but you need to know what you are doing and have a NAT router and/or a firewall at least. As a webmaster you are going to run into annoyances such as eventually it will be useless for checking IE compatibility since XP no longer supports the newer IE versions. Then eventually newer software will not work with it and compatibility will be a lot like say having Windows Me is now.

Matt 26z 03-25-2014 01:30 PM

I have dual boot XP and 7 on my main computer. Both 32bit. I find XP to be more snappy doing things that stresses 7.

I do use 7 probably 95% of the time, but I don't see any benefit over XP.

I actually have a very old desktop with 98 SE on it. Obviously I have other desktops and laptops which I do work on but it sits and collects dust. The funny thing about it is that it's actually fairly quick with it's current configuration. If you put XP on that machine it would be as slow as molasses in the Klondike during the winter season

The security is quite a bit better as is the driver support.

you're weird - you think communism works while it doesn't but claim that Windows doesn't work while millions of people use it without any issues - like me

mineistaken 03-25-2014 01:42 PM

I also upgraded from XP to win 7 few months ago.

One annoying thing - when I sort desktop icons Folders do not have priority.. and it switches backwards, meaning my recycle bib + folders are at the bottom right instead of always on top left.
What is up with that? I am annoyed by this for the last few months.

When you will create such. Or at least assemble developer team that would do hat for you.

This isn't true. I had mine for 5 months now and I still find it as awkward as the day I got it..

Ok, not as awkward but pretty damn shitty.

I can't think of a single area where it is better than Win7.

thegreatestporn 03-25-2014 02:55 PM

I heard if you use Windows 98, you'll make money like it's 98.

Dead 03-25-2014 02:55 PM

XP Pro on surf box, Win 8 for work. Still navigate XP faster as I am trying to figure out the strange way files "hide themselves" on 8...

seeandsee 03-25-2014 02:59 PM

windows 7 for the life!

Human societies of any sort do NOT work like machines ....no way at all.

But I have worked and lived under both systems and reject the propaganda picture of all bad all good....

As for Windows, Microsoft release their software not tested properly. What is service pack 1 ,2 and 3 the software rewritten.

The is software used for critical systems like flying planes. This is tested properly. It is expensive to do.

Microsoft make massive profits buy selling a crap half made product. And selling it every two years. Promising this time it will work.

We use are computers for video editing and have to reinstall the operating system every few months just to keep it working....don't get me started on video editing software...

went from xp to win 7 about a month or so ago.

The good: get to have 16Gb RAM

The bad: I used moviemaker to put together stuffz, the win7 version is ok but nowhere near as good (fuck knows if you can split imported scenes, and if you can, how to do that), and for what I use it for, it just isn't worth getting some super-duper all singing all dancing video 'maker'.

overall: I can live with the limited movie maker on win7, and being able to have a ton more memory is useful, though again, with what tasks/processes I run, there isn't that much difference. Not as bad a transition as I thought it'd be though.

notinmybackyard 03-25-2014 09:33 PM

If microsoft made cars...
Every time they created a new model I would have to go looking for the steering wheel.

It might be in the trunk, glove box, backseat or even on the hood... But each time we would be told it is sign of greater progress.

I use XP and if or when I have to "upgrade"...
I will finally learn linux because I am tired of playing the forever updating game.

FlowerKid 03-25-2014 11:17 PM

Go for win 8, it's much better than win7.

ErectMedia 03-25-2014 11:39 PM

8.1 with no issues :2 cents:

Check out Avidemux. There is a Windows version and it is free.

CDSmith 03-26-2014 08:38 AM

XP here. I also have an old machine I use as a backup (and to play really old games sometimes) that runs ME on it.

I'll upgrade when certain opinions I trust are telling me it's a system worth upgrading to. Not before.

Vista, anyone? :1orglaugh :disgust

I believe they pay you the $100 if you upgrade to a PC from the Microsoft store worth $599 or more. So technically they are paying you to upgrade your PC.

How is it "the best" when it doesnt support most modern hardware and runs slower?

freecartoonporn 03-26-2014 11:47 AM

xp and cent os here.

NaughtyRob 03-26-2014 11:57 AM

I run XP on the computer that I just use to have all of my hard drives hooked up to. Still works great.

Naughty 03-26-2014 12:13 PM

Posting from my old laptop with xp right now. Use it every day to login to the office and for some simple tasks when at home at night. Its useless for anything more though, takes 15 minutes to start up this fucker...
