Anybody here owned a Volvo???

For some reason Volvo is seen as the car you get when you are roughly 100 years old, but I've always liked them. Anybody here had one or at least driven one?

Was your Volvo good, great, shitty?

Really curious

~Ray 04-01-2014 11:42 AM

I heard they were really safe.

mineistaken 04-01-2014 11:43 AM

Car as any other car. I kind of like certain models, same with Saab. For example C70 is my favorite, especially the older one... Looks sexy. Does not look like old man's car. Of course certain models do.

Cherry7 04-01-2014 12:01 PM

First Volvo I had was great, estate for filming, really great car, tried to buy the same again and it was crap... kept going wrong

wehateporn 04-01-2014 12:05 PM

They last forever and are very safe, I'm a fan

Mediamix 04-01-2014 12:07 PM

My parents used to own a Volvo 440 and that thing was a tank.. It kept going and going and never had any problem in 9 years. Great car!

Marialovesporn 04-01-2014 12:12 PM

Great cars, loved the V70.

Naughty 04-01-2014 12:16 PM

My Dad had one recently. I'm 42. There you go ;-)

Naughty 04-01-2014 12:17 PM

I must admit though, the new 460 or so looks pretty sharp.

Sexier 04-01-2014 12:43 PM

I have S60 RS and is very good ..

If you are buying and diesel engine is your option just go for the 2.0 or above as its made by volvo and has 5 cylinders , others (1.6 diesel)is made by PSA ( Peugeot ).

Nice_Nick 04-01-2014 12:51 PM

My only experience of a Volvo involves me in a Renault 5 travelling at 3mph throuh a car park.
The Volvo reversed into me.

Damage to Volvo = Nil
Damage to Renault = New Bonnet, New Bumper, New Cluster Lights..

Tom.K 04-01-2014 01:02 PM

I had this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_200_Series

not caravan, just ordinary tank. never stopped although it was 20+ years old. and trees were falling down when I hit them

L-Pink 04-01-2014 01:17 PM

My Mother had a couple over the years. She also bought my sister one when the first grand kid was born.

Dependable, safe, lasted forever.

Sorry, I finally found one that is "less filling and tastes great" and my excitement is overwhelming.

old Hale & Pace sketch about prim and proper English people meeting scandinavians, within it was the line from the scandinavian "we will go out for a crash in the volvo - don't worry, it's quite safe"

Gem of a line which has always stuck with me, and I think of it whenever anyone mentions volvos :)

they are now owned by the chinese - but seem to be still doing well

the old 240 was amazing, they regularly made more than several hundreds of thousands kilometers without breaking down

White Swedish and whie British people, must be really old video. And not even a token Somali :winkwink:

Jel 04-01-2014 05:30 PM

lol yeah it is old actually, last time I saw that was when it came out - probably around 20 years ago now, maybe even more than that

ErectMedia 04-01-2014 07:17 PM

Was a mechanic in my twenties which might be more than a few years ago. :1orglaugh Worked at a shop once that only did Volvo & Saab. What did I learn back then...

1)They run like shit to me but they run forever. Quite a few that came in were over 200k miles, 240 model.

2)Easy to pick. Guy I worked with always locked the keys in them. I got into them in seconds.

Biggie Smalls Web Writing 04-01-2014 11:32 PM

Amazing car :thumbsup

I have S80 T5 2011.
Good car, but quite expensive in service. Eats a lot of gas. Not a single break since 2011. Bought it because needed a decent car with less than 250 horse powers due to hig tax (but as much close to 250 as possible).
It's way better inside than japanese D-class cars, but slightly worse than German ones.

Alex1776 04-02-2014 02:45 AM

Volvo 850 - my first car! Lasted more than 10 years

suesheboy 04-02-2014 03:08 AM

Bought my 83 Volvo DL new for about 16k and everyone thought I was nuts.

Kept it until 2007 - was mostly a second car from 1988 on. Very reliable and built like a tank. I am sure I did not put in more than $2,400 (other than oil, tires, batteries etc) in repairs.

Father drives a loaded AVD Volvo now which is very comfortable and now that he has hit more than 90k has had more repairs and problems (expensive $$$$) than I had in more than 20 years and he treats it like a baby. I figured out a few months ago my Honda civic with twice the miles has had less than 1/3rd the repairs, all being far cheaper.

Drive a 2012 V90 for a few months in the summer. Very comfortable. Handled OK, shitty mileage. For the money I would rather buy loaded Subaru AWD and keep what's left to pay for the insurance for years.

Markul 04-02-2014 03:17 AM

Driven many, very good, very safe.

Rochard 04-02-2014 06:59 AM

My folks had a few when I was a kid in the 1980s.

I think Volvos are nice cars really.

OY 04-02-2014 07:40 AM

My first car, 1990, was a 240GL. It was awesome.

Ferus 04-02-2014 01:46 PM

I love them :)

Have had
1 x Amazone 121
3 x 245 van
1 x 240 Turbo brick
1 x 240 non-Turbo
2 x 740 Vans (turbo)
1 x 940
1 x 850

Rignt now I drive a Toyota LAndcruiser + Toyota Sportswan, but thinking about replacing them with a new volvo xc 50 when they release it with a double-clutch gearbox (I get stuck in trafic often)

facialfreak 04-02-2014 03:17 PM

I loved driving my buddy's S60 ..... I had a VW Pasat, and I found his S60 more fun to drive, even though I am a huge fan of German Engineering.

stoka 04-02-2014 03:23 PM

a guy with '66 volvo p1800 holds the guinness world record for highest mileage in the same car
