Even with GD's "discount club", Namesilo offers equal or better pricing. PLus you get ALL extras at no cost, including Lifetime Whois Privacy, DNS, etc.

The one thing GD used to have going for it was pricing and service. You could overlook the endless upsells, the completely horrendous user interface, the hunting and searching for coupon codes, the nickel and diming for every little thing extra you needed (WHOIS for example, Domain Locks/Defender, etc).

But with GD's pricepoint increases -- even with their "discount club" fees -- it just makes very little sense to pay more to still put up with all of that nonsense when there are companies like NameSilo out there who offer better service, better user interface, zero upsells, and no extra fees -- all extras are included for a price LESS than GD even with coupon codes.

Suffice it to say, NameSilo's approach has been attractive enough that they've gained the 10 years+ business I've had with GoDaddy. It's how a registrar should be.

To the OP, try some sites like FatWallet who have a pretty active community. Also, some GD codes are hit and miss. I've been told if you try clearing your GD cookies and try entering the codes form different proxies, sometimes a code that didn't work for you from one location may indeed work from another location. I have no actual first-hand knowledge of that though. Good luck.

fact is though at some point namesilo is going to have to increase prices in order to stay profitable.

Hey Mutt, I also created one last week and didn't found any, but a guy told me about this chrome extension and it's very cool, but still didn't find a code so I'm waiting a bit before renewing.

I agree, though NameSilo also isn't exactly a new registrar, they've been around a awhile operating under that same philosophy. Their downside, if you can call it that, is they do not support all the extra domains that registrars like GD and NameCheap support. The TLD's they support are just the most primary ones. But they certainly seem to run a pretty tight, efficient ship.

That said, I certainly would be agreeable to paying a fee for any extras I need. I didn't migrate to NameSilo for the free extras. I migrated them for the clean and refreshing User Experience. No endless upsells, fragmented management sections, clutter, etc. It's just a very positive experience.

still out there, just getting harder to find, I joined the discount club with a coupon so .com renewals are $8.47 as I got tired of looking for coupon codes.

$2.95 .Com
Unlimited $8.99 .Coms
25% Off New Products

JuicyBunny 04-06-2014 09:39 AM

Let your domain expire. godaddy will suck your cock. Or get a real registrar.

LaLExpo 04-06-2014 10:34 AM

As I see domains are cheaper on tightdomains

mineistaken 04-06-2014 12:35 PM

Time to move your domains from GD, I started doing it slowly. No more good coupon prices that lasted for years :)
There is no reason to stay at GD if you do not get good prices (except big players with discount club).

CYF 04-06-2014 04:32 PM

all the renewal coupons have dried up in the last week or so.

GDBBX1705 BBX1456D5 and DJOFF20 were the last working ones that I've seen.
