RIP Disovery channel
It is now officially the "rub hillbilly stupidity and bad acting and bullshit scripts in your face" channel...they are no longer a documentary educational channel but literally purveyors of stupidity...
amish mafia porter ridge hell riders moonshiners ufo investigations They should introduce reality show tax...with warnings before a show on how stupid it is...like movies are rated PG or XXX...a stupidity rating...for example amish mafia would be 100% stupid... can you imagine the shows in 10 years? amish auction UFO moonshiners, american shit kickers, ancient hell riders, fat people eating bacon ect... its alarming how many stupid shits there seems to be in the world if this kind of bullshit actually finds and audience and thrives...makes you worry about the future of the world... |
So MTV died 20 years ago :)
|
Yep went to shit a while ago. I would always find something good on discovery or TLC. Now all i watch is the hitler channel or as they call it the history channel. I know a lot about hitler
|
Everything goes in waves.
|
I hate TV channels adapting to the stupid viewer.
|
|
the only one that is left in my book is viasat history

Agreed. They should really rename their channels to more appropriate names. History should be about history, not reality tv shows. Same with discovery.

They are pushing what sells, everyone here should realize that, it's called marketing.
Yes it's sad some of the stupid shows that they are making, but it has to do with what their ratings are, if these kind of shows are selling and making a profit for them, then they would be stupid to produce anything else. Anymore, I just watch the pay channels, TV sucks |
Does anyone remember when TLC was The Learning Channel? They started catering to idiots a long time ago. Now they're The Lobotomy Channel.
|
History Channel works best for me. I always watch Porn Stars.
Ohh, Pawn Stars. |

history channel can join the ride too.

It is a business and reality shows cost next to nothing to produce.
No high priced talent to pay, like writers and actors. |

fake is the new "real"...everything from the news to "documentaries" is becoming bullshit...even computers are becoming bullshit tablets and apps..a whole new species of dumb homo sapiens is being created...
one day they will just have to introduce "stupidity tax" to discourage networks from this intellectual and cultural genocide that is being forced upon us...this is IMO worse than drugs... history channel should be called the storage/pawn channel LOL...pawn stars is actually ok and so is one of them storage shows but to run this the whole fucking day long all fucking day with spin offs that insult even an idiots intelligence is just plain alarming... discovery science is a small beacon of hope with actual science on offer...national geographic is half bullshit half ok...TLC is just painful...everything about TLC just hurts...their shows are a crime... niche: "entertainment for the not very smart" :2 cents: |
I'm with you crucifissio. Also read a recent interview with the head of Nat Geo channel talking about how they're in the process of "pivoting" toward a new audience and approach... i.e. dumbing the fuck down.
The movie Idiocracy is going to wind up being more truth than fiction at this rate. Hell, look at a Playboy from 1972 - the articles, news, interviews, fiction, etc, in them makes modern mainstream news magazines look like Dr Seuss. It was actually shit for grownups with half a brain despite the naked girls, those days are long gone. |
most of tv nowdays is crap.
|
and cable company/channels wonder why users are flocking to dailymotion/youtube/netflix etc... to ge what they actually subscribed to see. My cable is a total farce. It's all these extra hd science and history channels, FULL of storage wars, counting cars and garbage pickers... ffs .. has NOTHING to do with science or history (at best, they tell why its worth a lot and go on some dramatic made up stunt for ratings to appease losers stuffing their faces with burgers in front of the tube)
|
Discovery channel died a long time ago...it's been redneck TV for several years now..
|
I'm glad I NEVER watch any of that shit..
There's a reason those are still online..it's what people watch the most.. |

H2 is catering to those that want actual history that isn't reality shows has some interesting historical shows coming up:
"Among those new shows: Brad Meltzer?s Secret History (hosted by the mystery novelist behind History?s Decoded); an event series titled The Civil War, set to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Lee?s surrender at Appomattox; and most promisingly, The Shift, an ancient-history/far-future special about what the planet looked like millions of years ago and how it?ll look millions of years from now." http://www.adweek.com/news/televisio...-shows-156996? |
H2 and Science channel are the way to go for actually getting the programming you would expect from History and Discovery, although it's only a matter of time before that goes to shit as well.
|
What you guys who are complaining so much about the abundance of reality programming on channels that used to not have it is that the amount of channels and the numbers of programs, specials and documentaries is overall greater than ever before.
So even though there are a seemingly never-ending deluge of crappy reality shows that you don't care to watch, there are still more serious history and science shows than ever before. They are just spread around to more channels as well as on Netflix, YouTube and other online sources that you can watch on your tv as well. History, H2, Science Channel, National Geographic, Discovery, the Military Channel & PBS are some of the best plus you have a lot of foreign documentaries from the BBC and elsewhere that one can watch on YouTube. PBS.org is an incredible resource as well that has a large collection of documentaries and science shows. Just don't expect to switch your tv on randomly and find the good stuff. Check the web sites for those channels and set your DVRs or hook your computer up to your tv and enjoy the streaming goodness of the large number of serious science and documentary shows available nowadays. |
