Firefox + Adobe Flash = Crashes

Argh Fucking fuck fuck fucking shit fucking Adobe!
Fuck Firefox

signupdamnit 04-24-2014 02:01 PM

Yes. I'm seeing it too. Almost random. Are you on Linux? There was talk about some weird race condition (kernel related) causing or contributing it but details were scarce. There have been various bug reports filed.

t will be fixed soon I'm sure. There probably is workaround as well. I haven't looked hard as the disruption is minimal here (I have good crash recovery).

Sarah_Jayne 04-24-2014 02:33 PM

Thank you. I'm on Firefox on a windows machine and seeing this happen too.

Well I prefer to use FF over Chrome due to the plugins that I have. Most are not available for Chrome.
Most sites still use Flash as well.

If big sites like Google, the bbc, youtube, flickr, dailymotion and Amazon use it then I would say it's a pretty big factor.
Just because sites for the little man like sussexmagician.com don't use Flash doesn't mean it's not out there.

Which version of flash are you using? I turned off the updates and stayed with 11 because the newer versions crashed all the time. Maybe try an older one.

Maybe because not all people are the same, and not all people use the same shit? Personal preference maybe?

For example I would never use that piece of shit Chrome browser from Google.

Disabled flash in FF over a year ago.
It totally crashes my machine

signupdamnit 04-25-2014 10:37 AM

Now it's working fine again here on Linux. I'm not sure if it was the kernel update and the reboot which fixed it or not.

Wait for the next FF release for the fixes or switch to PaleMoon, as they do more builds and will patch the problem much quicker. As of right now, my PaleMoon and Flash are running fine and they have both updated in past few days.

Mayhap, but I know 14.2% isn't "most".

lolsome.

DamianJ 04-25-2014 03:20 PM

But, your solution is to uninstall flash, install chrome.

Use Firefox, then on the very occasional times you need to use flash, move to chrome, watch the video of tramps wanking each other off that you were interested in, and switch back to Firefox.

It's really not that hard. No one should have flash player on their machine, it's shit.

Nice_Nick 05-09-2014 02:45 PM

Just wanted to say I found a solution to the crashes.

Go to Start > My Computer (C:) > Windows > sysWOW64 > Macromed > Flash and double click it.

Find the mms.cfg (or mms file) and Drag it to your Documents folder where you can edit it without being bothered about administrator privileges; "ACCESS DENIED".

Open mms.cfg from Documents with Notepad. You will see:

SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
AutoUpdateDisable=0

ADD, on a separate line (case sensitive):

ProtectedMode=0

Save the file and close Notepad.

Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the mms.cfg file back to the Flash folder to make a copy there, keeping the original in Documents.

Restart Browser and Restart Computer.

Do a disk cleanup in Windows and delete the temporary files. Delete the temporary files in FF too and if possible, reset the browser. Reboot the machine and you should be good to go.

Well it works for me. From what I can gather Flash added in a protected mode and some systems are not compatible with it. This disables the flash protection.

klinton 05-10-2014 08:35 AM

if you have firefox 27 installed, just dont upgrade to new versions:winkwink::winkwink:

from 28 they are buggy...and it crashes with many addons:helpme

suesheboy 05-10-2014 08:53 AM

FF is 29.0.1 as of today.

well, there goes that. I have had issues for a few days now, so got rid of palemoon and direct to firefox. It's worse. At first I thought it was error on my end, but all those errors are corrected.. still happening.

Tried older version of FF to no avail. so finally just disabled flash completely to see if that helps.

When browser locks, it locks all open apps for a good 5 mins before FF recovers. It's so random and anytime I do stuff quickly. If I go really slow like im waiting for a dial-up page, it's fine, but if I click quick to shit as son as it loads.. locks.

Zeiss 06-01-2014 09:47 AM

Get Linux, Get better CPU, Forget about flash problems. Thanks! [/thread]

anexsia 06-01-2014 10:30 AM

I reformatted my computer and when I went to reinstall Firefox there was a new version and apparently they do Firefox Sync differently now so I couldn't get any of my 800+ bookmarks back! Such BS! I ended up having to download an older version and using their old Sync servers to get everything back (thankfully) and then upgrading to the new version from there.

freecartoonporn 06-01-2014 10:47 AM

update your display drivers.

balint 06-01-2014 11:20 AM

Same problem, day by day, really anoying.
I've tried almost everything. After an update it works properly for a week and than the same as before. I got used to it :)

BlackCrayon 06-01-2014 12:30 PM

i don't know if its flash but since the last update or so its always going crazy on me, tabs will show up in other tabs or they look all fucked, distored, kinda like a scrambled satellite channel or something.

Chosen 06-01-2014 11:33 PM

I'd suggest you to try Opera :)

Why didn't you export/import your bookmarks?

iwantchixx 06-02-2014 03:22 PM

Well, turns out it wasn't flash or firefox. Because Chrome was doing it too. Then skype, then photoshop, then farcry 3 blooddragon.. after further investigation, I found that my primary SSD was getting hit hard with 339KB/s R/W 100% load for exactly 60 second at a time. Sometimes 15 min breaks of usefulness in between, but then began to get about 1-2 mins between episodes.

Fuckit

Rebooted into linux mint live USB and did a memory cell cleaning, reloaded OS and voila. Problem gone.

I think when I unhooked an internal drive to use as external, the OS did not like that and began degrading.. or.. the SSD took a static shock that rewrote some cells when I was cleaning out the inside of the case when I took that other HDD out.

I also flipped my PGU card's bios to unprotected mode and had a whole other slew of issues.... not a good computing month so far haha

bxy 06-02-2014 04:35 PM

interesting that the old 3.6 has none of these issues, n runs circles around the new version. Access and security issues, yes. but a fluke reference.

Fired up an old machine for some files, n seen the old ff
