NBA bans Donald Sterling for life, fines him $2.5 million for racial comments
:thumbsup
The NBA has banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for life and fined him $2.5 million for racial comments he made to his reported girlfriend. The NBA will immediately begin working to try to force him to sell the team. "The hateful opinions voiced by that of the man [on the tape] are those of Donald Sterling," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said. "?I'm personally distraught the views expressed by Mr. Sterling came from within an institution that has historically taken such a leadership role in matters of race relations." As part of the ban, Sterling is not allowed "to attend any NBA games or practices, be present at any Clippers office or facility, or participate in any business or player personnel decisions involving the team." Several groups hoping to purchase the Clippers are already stepping forward with a bidding war expected to exceed $1 billion for the franchise, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Among those groups, Magic Johnson and Guggenheim Partners will be front and center in pursuit of the Clippers. full article... |
I keep wanting to make jokes in bad taste about it, but it's too soon I think. What a prick that guy is.
|
That would be hysterical if Magic ends up buying it, and then it turns out that he instigated the tape. Not that I think he did, but he is a smart businessman… who knows!
|
well you cannot talk behind closed doors now. That is like me saying I am going to kill my fucking boss because he is a fucking loser to my girl friend and she records it without me knowing and I lose everything because of that.
Yeah what he said is wrong I agree but it is not about that. Now people can record what you say without knowing and this happens? People talk shit. That is why it cannot be used in court if you do not know you are being recorded. unreal |
They must have some really bizarre legal language in place if they can fine you millions for comments that you made in private.
|
i started to change my opinion about NBA.some bad move by them

Parking.

All that can be considered now, so it's not just about the private conversation; although we know this is the "straw that broke the camel's back". Plus all these things come with "reputation clauses". Damaging the reputation of the NBA/team etc... No matter how it happened, there is a reputation issue now. |

A bad move would be doing nothing and risking a strike by the players. |
Regardless of what he said it was a private comment. as long as he is not putting anything into action, then the NBA should fuck off.
|
Its a crock.

The NBA doesn't have to even keep his team if they feel like the contact is violated enough. You should consider it fucked up if the NBA could not use it's freedom to fire someone. The racist dude is not the only one with rights you know. |

He'll just add the 2.5million to the price tag for the team...
his punishment shouldn't be a reward of a profit through sale of the team...it should be as the jockstrap washer for the team for 1 year...come on Judge Brown, you need to rule on this case and make him do something silly... |
I honestly believe the best thing the NBA could have done here was issue a PR saying they welcome everyone into the NBA, all fans, all players, everyone regardless of beliefs. Show some tolerance, which is what racism boils down to really, lack of tolerance.
So I find the banning and fine to be very hypocritical, reactionary and made with little thought of what the real goal here is. |
They act like he replaced the cheerleaders at half time and had a bunch of KKK members out there dancing or even worse
|
That will show him! He will make big bucks off the sale, he and his family will be set up for years to come. Mean while many of these players will retire and be broke in a couple of years with no degree to fall back on

You are stuck on the latest thing. The league has had enough of the guy. And it's not just about "racism" he has done things that resulted in others quitting/losing their jobs. He denied people fair housing. Try living without being able to rent a place to stay. You keep talking about "racism"; how about just understand they he fucked some people over....period. Why do you care if he was motivated by race? He fucked people over, now he's reaping what he sewed. |

I have no issue with the NBA doing this. Its not a private business. To be an owner you agree to the constitution of the private business, which is the NBA itself.
To have an owner be a racist, in a league that is largely black, is a disaster for not only that franchise, but the whole league as a whole. To have a team in a market like L.A no longer able to get free agents, coaches etc, hurts the bottom line of all the owners in the league. |

I don't care what his motivation was/is, that's my point. Fighting intolerance with intolerance is nonsensical. You can't see that. no biggie to me. See this clip for similar nonsense. |
So overnight he went from getting an award from the NAACP to being banned from the NBA for being a racist...

Complaining to me or any other person isn't going to do anything. The only point I'm making is that the NBA does have rights and it's not just "his business". That's my only point. |

Nevertheless, you're missing my point still, of course the NBA has rights and they should be exercising those rights here. I am saying fighting intolerance with intolerance, regardless of how long the league has known and let that intolerance go on, simply does not help the situation, anyone or anything. Aren't there other answers to racism? Aren't there responses to racism instead of reactions? Lead by example. Practice tolerance, don't embrace it as a tool to punish the intolerant, again, that's nonsensical. |
What's more fucked up, is that these rich old men will continue to fuck and trust her gold digging ass. The power of pussy!

Then you have larry johnson calling for an all black league but of course he won't get in trouble for that. What if a white executive said he wanted an all white league?
