Anyone know US-based people who do oldschool film projector restoration/repair?
I know this is a longshot, but...
I'm looking for someone who restores and sells old 8mm & 16mm film projectors, especially ones with 5-blade or syncronous motors for telecine transfers (analogue to digital). My usual go-to guy for these - I use them for my vintage stuff - has sold me a couple lemons, it's fucking irritating as hell. Not really a service you see much anymore and AFAIK there aren't too many other vintage folks on here, but just thought I'd check. |
I still have an old B&H 8mm projector in the basement - but the bulb is pooched.
I transferred all our family's old 8mm films to digital years ago, though. Used a telecine chain box and a Sony V5 cam. Good luck. Those old projectors are gettin' notoriously unreliable these days without a lot of TLC. |
Cool, yeah - I have a bunch of regular projectors but I need ones with synchro motors or 5 blades to prevent film roll when transferring. Manufacturer built or custom, either's fine.
Last year I got a big archive (maybe one of the largest around) of 1920s-40s porn flicks that hadn't seen the light of day since 1950, but have only transferred maybe 1/4 of them so far. I just wanted to finish them. The guy who usually sells me custom projectors sold me a couple that died permanently, conveniently after a reasonable refund period (as much as that's possible with old gear like this), I want to be done with it without continually throwing $$$ at the problem. Quality ones ain't cheap. There just aren't really many dudes with that skillset anymore. |
