TV license.

I'm curious is there any other country where they pay TV license expect the UK?

Sexier 05-10-2014 03:37 PM

You mean end user?

Canada, Portugal , Spain, Czech , that i know

georgeyw 05-10-2014 03:55 PM

We have cable tv and then free to air channels.

Before digital tv, there were only 5 free to air channels, now the are are approximately 25, with many of them only airing infomercials.

Bleh...

But I heard it's a land of plenty tho.

Mmmm, can't you simply not pay a dime if you have a tv set that is not attached to
any provider? Or they sell a tv set along with the license?

$461 a year i'd fucking be spending all days staring into tv to somehow make myself believe i'm paying that much.

The cheapest Foxtel (pay TV) package in Australia costs more than that.

Bourke 05-12-2014 04:10 AM

Sure, but its not a lump sum and you dont have to pay it if you want tv at all. Mention of tv licence reminds me of the Young Ones episode where Vivian eats the tv and has the cord hanging out the corner of his mouth while the tv inspector is round.

Although tve is now funded by the other commercial channels... no adds.

re the BBC, I like it it's worth the money. When you live abroad you realise just how shit tv can be..
5 hour singing galas/gossip anyone?

No, when you buy a TV it gets registered. Besides, they have people who travels around and visits people they suspect have a TV. In fact, in their theory everybody DOES and you can get a hard time proving you don't.

You can get it sealed by certified personell who gives you a certificate.
And then you're more likely to get a visit to prove it.

I hate people in Norway dissatisfied with government and saying it's almost as bad as russia, but when it comes to this licence, it almost is :)

It works like this in most cases! You buy a tv then you have to register your name at the store, you get a huge bill you got to pay. But they also have "deals" from the different tv providers buy a satelite package and get ?% discount etc, some have cable tv but where i live we have satelite that cost alone 5000 Nkr a year. So including the tv license it cost well over 7000 Nkr a year, that is a lot when you see the crap programs they make. (65% shit)

Charging for the radio is the most rudiment one.
What a tv license is based upon? What mofo proved that legal so many EU people
simply pay it without any doubt?

rowan 05-12-2014 06:04 PM

I remember they used to have vans that had super sensitive electronics that could detect the local oscillator operating in a TV set from several metres away. So they could basically say "there's a TV in that house over there" and check the address against their licence records.

Probably wouldn't work these days because so many devices generate RF noise.
