Police shooting contest heads to Albuquerque

Sadly no it's not a contest to see how many police you can shoot... However in some kind of sick joke, the NRA has decided it's a great idea to hold their annual shooting contest for cops in Albuquerque, NM where cops have shot and killed 39 suspects since 2010. Both the FBI and the DOJ have been investigating the APD due to the large number of shootings for a city of only 500k people.

Do these people just lack any thread of common sense or tact? They are already having demonstrations about the police shootings and they just want to pour fuel on the fire? How can anyone be that stupid?

I'm actually in Albuquerque at this very moment, I've been here for several days and I just can't see where the crime is that requires so many shootings. I've been to a lot of cities and been in places where you see bullet holes in glass or buildings.. Albuquerque is a very clean looking city and the worst place I've seen was around Route 66 as you head east there is a area of town that most of the business have closed up, yes there were some street people walking around but nothing that would make me worried about walking around.

I'd hate to see any of these APD guys try to go work in any other major city in the US.. They would probably shoot the first five people they met in down town Orlando.

Until the police stop killing unarmed people, the police should be hunted down and shot!

Kill 'em all. Let god sort them out.

so the takeaway from this thread and comments is

cops shoot people = bad

people shoot cops = good.

got it.

I think it should be, that cops in Albuquerque are fucked in the head and have bad training.. Also that the NRA isn't even trying to act with responsibility on gun issues. If you have a police force that is under investigation by both the FBI & DOJ, and have shot more people than the NYPD it's not sensible to reward them with hosting a national event like this in their city.

There are plenty of places they could of held the event, but instead they choose a city that is already under a bad light due to police brutality in order to politicize it. Essentially rewarding the police bad behavior.

I thought the NRA was supposed to be about gun rights and gun responsibility.. Obviously with actions like this they don't stand for anything except selling more guns and ammo..

I'm not defending the NRA, there's a reason I am no longer a member. Nevertheless, it's a simple observation, people comment that cops that shoot people should be shot, that's something I want to highlight.

People that say these things are very unlikely to do it, and are almost always just venting frustration at the status quo. I think most of us can admit it's pretty frustrating to see these cops getting away with shooting some of the people they shoot and end up back on duty.

I know myself I get pretty irritated, just looking at a cop that is dressed like a solider and not a police officer. I look at that as a attempt to intimidate the average person.

It is frustrating and I feel the same. In highlighting, for me anyway, I'm trying to show that we ALL feel frustration and over react to it. Those police overreacted to frustration, agitiation, and anxiety with their guns, others do it verbally.

And I think it's also important to maybe step back from such comments, while they are venting, I'm not so sure there's any real value in venting anyway + if there is, there's a time and place to vent. I don't think it helps people meet in the middle to say we should shoot the shooters.

anyway, that's how I see it.

what kind of mileage are you getting and what's the average price for gas you're seeing? Seems like you're putting the miles down.

It's not the best, but considering the weight of the van (4,500lbs) and the fact it has a auto trans, it's not the worst. I'm probably getting about 15 to 17mpg. I don't know for sure because VW vans being VW vans, the speedo broke the first day of my trip and has been broken since.. :1orglaugh

I will say my other van which is the 4x4 syncro version is getting a motor swap. I'm putting a 2.5 GM ecotec engine in it out of a Pontiac Sky. I actually met a guy in Austin that has the same motor in his van with a automatic and he averages 28mpg.

Meaning once I go back to FL, to finish up the Syncro project that will be the ultimate road trip van. :1orglaugh

I would have guessed no more than 12. Man, I saw a very trick 4x4 class b motorhome tooling down the road recently, it looked ready to go anywhere and set-up camp. I need more room, I'm a 30' footer camper !

We should kick this cop in the nuts!

Weeks after federal investigators criticized the Albuquerque Police Department for a pattern of excessive force during arrests, a drunk driving suspect has alleged that an officer's brutality caused him to lose a testicle, the suspect's attorney said.
........
Padilla repeatedly ordered Martin to stay seated on the sidewalk, threatening to use Mace or a Taser if he did not comply, the video showed.

Martin, however, stood up and remained standing. Padilla grabbed him near the collar of his suit jacket and pushed him against the pickup. According to Martin's attorney, Sam Bregman, it’s in that instant Martin was kneed in the groin and then thrown face-first into the asphalt. The video, however, is too grainy to clearly see that action.

After that point in the altercation, Martin is heard screaming out in pain.

I started off with a class B and toyed with the idea of converting it to 4x4. However after I drove the van around last summer I realized I hated driving something that big and awkward. It's ok to take out for a weekend trip or a week or so, but I knew I'd hate driving cross country in it.

I then looked for various options before settling on the Vanagons. Now I'll admit it does get a bit small at times and I dunno if I'd want to use it with two people, but I kinda look at the van as sort of a experience in an of it's self.

I meet a lot of people just because of the van, so when you are traveling alone that's always a plus. The other thing is I've liked them since I was a kid and always wanted one, so I went for it.

I would actually like a full size van 4x4 van to build a custom set up out of like say a sportsmobile but those things get 10 to 12mpg and that's if you are lucky. With fuel cost being what it is I wanted to make something that was economical to drive and is 4x4.

The reason I want 4x4 is this year I'm going around much of the mid & south west but next year I'm thinking of either Alaska or perhaps south America so I need something that is dependable off-road but also I'd like decent mileage. With that in mind as far as smaller RV style vans go you just can't beat the Vanagon.

L-Pink I hit yea back, didn't notice the PM.

The stock VW vanagon motors have a lot of problems, so a lot of people opt to put modern engines in the vans. The most common is Subaru's and now Fords are catching on but I didn't like either choice. Neither gets very stellar fuel mileage and they aren't that great in the power department unless you go with the bigger subaru motors.

The GM ecotec however has a great HP/torque ratio and it's lighter than my stock motor. By the time it's in my van it will be a bit over 200hp with nearly the same torque and I'll get close to 30mpg something none of the other conversions can touch short of diesels.

The other bonus is the dune buggy guys have been using ecotec engines for quite a while because they have a proven record of being nearly bullet proof. From the factory the bottom end is billet aluminium.

It's also a pretty straight forward engine as far as making all the computer stuff work in a different car. It's sort of like the 4 cylinder version of the LS1. There are guys in the street racing scene that push 500hp out of these motors with stock bottom ends and turbo chargers.
