Self-driving car, to start building by Google

Google's driverless car in action.

MaDalton 05-28-2014 04:08 AM

if i don't want to drive, i take a bus or train

driving a car is fun, i want to be in control of that

kane 05-28-2014 04:13 AM

Pretty cool. I wonder how long they think it will be until we start to see some of them on the road.

I read the other day that if most cars were driverless cars it would cost city and state governments billions of dollars per year in lost revenue because they wouldn't be able to to give out speeding and traffic tickets since these cars wouldn't speed and would obey all traffic laws.

When those things would be driving around I will be installing a metal bullbar on my car and ram them off the road whenever i see one.

Also this could never work in traffic with usual cars around, not sure if a robot can react on incidents or, more importantly anticipate other driver's stupidity.

Would be good to have this as a "drink and drive" mode in a regular car though :)

A robot is a much better driver then a human.

Talk about being lazy..:2 cents:

Can't wait till it will be more of a reality. Just imagine, you can go with car even when you are drunk etc, just getting out of the bar, jumping to the car and making a command - "GO HOME". lol

The cars are already legal in California. And sure it means less tickets, but it also means less lives lost due to accidents.

I can see a use for these as a fleet of taxis rather than an owned personal vehicle.

In the future we will not be in control of this. Future generations will never know what it's like to drive a car.

Very true. I think that article mentioned that as well.

I think we are still a long ways away from them being the norm, but the technology is pretty impressive.

I see them being used as both. For the most part we all seem to go to the same destinations over and over again anyhow. Fucking Goggle not only knows where I am going but also when, and can tell me how to get there. Why not just point to a location at a map and say "take me there".

CDSmith 05-28-2014 03:06 PM

They better remember to install highway scanners of some kind to check the ditches ahead for wildlife or I won't be buying one.

Nothing like hitting a 1500 lb moose to ruin your day.

Aidoru 05-29-2014 12:02 AM

I can't wait guys :D

and I would still never trust it, especially since it's absoultely not fit to deal with humans driving around
