A man in central Russia has blamed the family cat for making him kill his stepfather through mind control tactics, local investigators said.

The suspect did not elaborate on exactly how the feline gave the order to deliver multiple knife stabs to his 44-year-old stepfather, the Investigative Committee branch in the Republic of Chuvashia said.

"It's her, her! The cat! Ordered me to kill him, she did!" the man was cited by Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid as saying under interrogation.

The 31-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld, came to visit his mother and her new husband from the Russian Far East, the report said.

He appeared to have a track record of mental illness back at home, which may save him from spending up to 15 years in prison on murder charges, investigators said.
