Need help with Video Capture for Lets Play vids

Hey everyone,

I have been trying to record some gameplay videos, tweaking the recorder etc until everything is perfect for high quality videos. I am currently using MSI Afterburner to do the video capture, and I played some War Thunder and recorded about 20 seconds then ended it to check the quality of the video.

Video quality was astounding, superb quality.. Except for one thing. 20 seconds was over 800MB!!?! Ouch.

I have it set to record with 100% quality, 1920x1080 res, and 60FPS. It seems to record the video file in AVI, but you can choose different video formats, but there is no option to record directly in mp4.

Anyone have any experience with MSI Afterburner for recording game videos, or even if you know a better type of setup that will result in a much smaller file.

Thanks.

The need for high quality video is obvious when playing, but why so high for recorded playback? Consider lowering your resolution to 720p and your frame rate to 30. Then experiment with various converters out there that will convert your video into mp4. You will save a ton of space, a ton of bandwidth, and your videos will load and or stream alot faster and be easier to manage too.

You can record video with OBS, just Google "Open Broadcaster Software".

Thanks for the tips you guys. I've been using OBS and it's pretty sweet.

Having lots of fun doing these lets play videos. Did some new, and some old school segaCD games. :)

I found out YouTube currently only does 30FPS, so I switched back from 60 to 30.

60 FPS can be used if you want to do slow motion clips. Hard to find that usable in adult entertainment.

You might want to record and playback on 720p on 24FPS for optimal quality vs file size ratio.

Simple solution is to pick up x-split, it records at high quality (or live streams) and the file sizes are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller. I am talking 1/50th of FRAPS or MSI Afterburner. Try it out for sure!!

Also you can put other stuff on your screen while you record, such as a feed of yourself in the corner or chat or scores, all kinds of stuff!
