What is it with these TED "talks"?

Is it just me or are they the most unwatchable annoying overly-frank, disgustingly earnest, fucking presentations online?

I dunno... I "like" them sorta... but I can't digest more than one a year. It's as if they have an attitude or way of presentation... freaks me out, annoys the piss outta me, makes me want to watch Sonny Chiba ripout someone's nuts.

I watched the George Takei one, and it was bearable... not like the normal "formula"....

It's not just you--they're very annoying.

I love watching documentaries, and that is mainly what I watch on NetFlix. However, these have been unbearable.

I have tried to watch probably 5-6 different one's and I just can't do it.

What are they? Enlighten the unenlightened so we know to stay away from them. :)

I don't hate what they say, not even really the way they say it... I just want to take a howitzer to them... and it bugs me because I can't detect the "formula"...

What bugs me most is the speakers often have a cloying, know-it-all smugness.

I agree that all to familiar TEDx speaking style is eerily Jobsesque, with a little Jobs-Speak sprinkled in, and a dash of Stepford Wives on the side... :helpme

Some of them are interesting. A ton of them suck ass.

I was watching one on sharks. The subject matter was really interesting, but all of the fluff involved got to me and I had to turn it off. I prefer more of a documentary style video that gets straight to the point, I don't need the soft cushy feel.

I have a few hipster style friends that are mentioning TED talks often. It makes me think that people watch them as a way to feel enlightened, as opposed to doing.

I read an article once about a talk Zuck was giving on management. The article pointed out that the room was full of hundreds of Silicon Valley 20-somethings and a small handful of old-school business types. The old-school guys were taking notes, the 20-somethings were not.
