We pay for a bundled pack - internet, TV & phone. Lately I've managed to convince the wife we should get rid of the landline since we use our cells almost all the time. Hopefully save a little money, right?
So we called our cable provider and told them we wanted to get rid of their phone service. "No, sorry...it's part of the bundle, sir," I was told.
"Then un-unbundle it and eliminate it," I replied.
"But then we'll have to raise the rates on your cable TV and internet," she says.
"Oh? Is that because you think that since I'll no longer be talking on your phone, I'll have more time to spend in front of the TV and internet - so that's how you'll maintain your revenue stream by gouging me?"
So I gave her the analogy - "If I'm buying a car and decide I don't need the sport wheels, the premium audio, the sunroof and the leather heated seats...you'd be charging me far more for all the other basic features?"
I think she actually tried to consider that analogy - but only briefly. Thinking is required when deviating from the script. Thinking isn't part of her pay grade. She was right back to her retention script with the next sentence.
"That's just the way we work, sir," she said.
