I broke down and bought a new car - and it gets 37 miles per gallon +

2014 Toyota Camry

I feel dirty but the wife loves it. No more Rover for her... but the Rover was getting like 10-12 mpg around town.

This is more of a confessional thread because I feel dirty we bought Japanese

crockett 06-20-2014 09:56 AM

My 4x4 syncro will get about 30mpg once it's done with it's engine swap.. Fuck Japanese just need German with a GM power plant and you get your cherry cake and can eat it too..

CourtneyR 06-20-2014 10:16 AM

Should have gone with a MINI. mine gets 32mpg, and I drive like I stole it. I think they said the new 2014 gets 42mpg.

Choopa Phil 06-20-2014 10:22 AM

And it will run till 200k+ miles without any issues! Good luck with it.

L-Pink 06-20-2014 10:24 AM

Thought you just got a Chevy Volt?

edit: Sorry, always get you guys mixed up.

Quite likely built in either Kentucky or Cambridge, Ontario (Canada).

We recently bought a Kia Optima EX - Korean owned...but built in West Point, Georgia. Or as I often describe it to those who ask - "German engineered...American built." :1orglaugh

VikingMan 06-20-2014 11:06 AM

I get 9 mpg in my truck but you know what? I don't give a fuck. If some turd texting on their phone runs into me they will become part of my bumper. Fuck the world!

nico-t 06-20-2014 11:12 AM

Rover? That is the epitome of shitty quality. Be glad you got a decent Japanese car now :thumbsup

Never. In. Hell. Would I buy a Mini.

Nothing personal. Nope. :2 cents:

Her Rover took her 108k and some odd miles since 2004. Other than normal maintenance it was a good vehicle overall. It was the $120+ per week in gas mileage staying around town and running the kids to people's houses, dance, soccer etc that got on our nerves.

We've has it 3 days at a full tank (I told them we wouldn't sign unless it was full... Hebrew) when started - she has drove roughly 120-175 miles (haven't looked, but roughly) and she says it's still between a half and 3 quarters.

Take the cost of gas out of the equation? It's still a pain in the ass to stop and top up so often. This is perfect...

Still feel bad. My Brit sitting down there with all of the Japs. :( Was a good ride.

I couldn't own a Camry. Just zero excitement there. I look at it and it makes me feel sad.

Generally speaking I don't like Japanese cars, but I am slowly (very slowly) warming up to them. I think the Honda CRz isn't half bad if you are going for gas mileage.

I don't drive much at all. My jeep gets 23 miles per gallon and my old truck much worse. I doubt I go through $100 a month in gas.

TCLGirls 06-20-2014 01:14 PM

I'm lucky to get 10 miles per gallon with my truck ;)

just helped my mom pick out a new car and we went with the 2014 camry too, fantastic car. She had to get the hybrid, hah, fucking loaded to the gills though. cosmic gray, terrific paint. the owner's manual is 100s of pages to keep her busy.

Choopa Phil 06-20-2014 02:19 PM

Its a great car to get from point a to point b. Boring but reliable.

Ran Ohm 06-20-2014 02:23 PM

polipie 06-20-2014 03:34 PM

i do 28mpg and that's expensive for being in Europe. Most of the cars they are promoting do 50mpg and higher.

Diesel costs 7.8 USD per gallon over here.
Regular gasoline costs 8.4 USD per gallon.

American Psycho 06-20-2014 03:41 PM

Ballllllinnnnnn!

Even a Chevy volt is more pimpn.
But props to you for coming out and admitting it

They make the best cars in terms of reliabilty. I drive a Honda currently with no issues. Have had plenty of American cars but from the 70's when quality was still there.

That is basically a Viper engine, much like Chevrolet uses the LS series in the corvettes for several other models.

ZING

sojproductions 06-21-2014 03:39 AM

just bought a blue efficiency merc, 60+ mpg, will save 100s across a month, pays for itself compared to the current motor

F-U-Jimmy 06-21-2014 06:05 AM

Im converting my cars engine to a Flux Capacitor, ill let you know what happens when it hits 88mph

mineistaken 06-21-2014 11:37 AM

"Rover" does not say anything. Which model?

People in Europe has proper/convenient way to express that - xL/100km. Not the vackwards thing.

One of the worst engine combos ever too.

Chews fuel, low towing Max weight, sluggish under load, shitty torque.

Engine is designed for a lightweight car. Yes I've driven a v10 dodge truck, they sound great, but useless for their purpose.

No need to feel sorry, I always buy Japanese, cause American's car can't compete.

Love Rovers for appearance (some of the best looking vehicles available) but I think you're in the minority of people who haven't had to do lots of [expensive] work on them.

My mom bought a 2013 Camry Hybrid and I drive it every time I go up to visit. One of the best riding cars I've driven.
