Attention LA County pet owners
Two weeks ago my daughter's two Golden Retrievers died; yesterday we discovered it was probably due to the City of Los Angeles' Parks & Recreation Department. Please read and share this story via any social media platform you use. If you take your dog on any of the popular hiking paths, they are at risk.
Thanks in advance. http://www.gotbaddog.com/la-county-poisoning-our-pets/ http://www.gotbaddog.com/wp-content/.../Dogs_1527.jpg |
Beautiful looking dogs,a real shame.RIP
|
Damn shame. idiots in the government that approved the usage of that rat poison!!
|
Heartbreaking, goldens are beautiful inside and out. If they were poisoned at the dog park there must be many more victims. If not, they must have contacted it somewhere else.
:( |
Damn! All too often they tell us you can't use this poison to control nature. As in don't throw a moss poison into the pond at a park. But then they do it with this rat poison?
Change. Org petition? |

Terrible news Lloyd. I read the story on that beautiful mountain lion up at the Griffith observatory eating that shit too. This is terrible. So sorry to hear.
We no longer take Jaxon to ANY public parks or dog parks. He has contracted pink eye on two occasions and after reading some other stories like your's, we refuse to have him put in danger. We now pay 25.00 a day so he can go to a doggie day care and socialize with dogs in a controlled area. Very sorry to hear this news. Poor doggies. |
Oh, and........
Class Action. I have sent your link several dog clubs, trainers, and associations in California that I know. If one county is doing it, it is very possible that many others are doing the same shit. I have also posted on a very popular dog forum that I am a member of. |
Very sorry to hear about this. Very sad :( My condolences to you and your family.
|
thats messed up she didnt see the doggs eating it? this stuff is not just lying on the ground :2 cents: maybe a rat took it out of the trap. :2 cents: you can find these kind of traps behind your local stores.
|
Those idiots who thought this was a good idea should be shot. That had to be the toughest thing to go through. If that happened to my boy, I'd probably be in bed for a week curled up in a ball.
|
Oh that's terrible :( I'm so sorry to hear about your family's dogs! What a sad story :(
|
Wow, I can only imagine how she felt, such beautiful friends lost at the same time.
|

Why the hell are they trying to kill rodents where they're supposed to be anyways? "Don't come into our homes.. oh.. and the forest is off limits too!"

see graphic in story. so irresponsible by the city/county/state. |
yah, what the morons don't realize is that the bobcats, coyotes, bears, and anything else that kills each other in the wild will fucking eat the animals that are eating the poison. just wait till the bald eagles in other parts of california start to eat animals that have eaten poison. or the california condor an endangered species does the same. these idiots are completely pissing in the face of nature and should back off and halt any pesticide placements. this really fires me up.

hey, what sort of bylaws do you have for your county?
in vancouver, we have a simple warning: 'Please use these according to the label instructions and place them in areas inaccessible to children, pets and wildlife.' I am curious if there is already laws in place where you are locally preventing this? |

My daughter's friends set up a fund to help with expenses within hours of hearing the girls were sick. |
Still what gives anyone the right to kill any animal (aside from hunting of course), rodent or otherwise, when that animal is living where it's supposed to be living? My god humans are arrogant.

Sorry for your loss.
I'm confused - are you saying that the city of LA (County, whatever) put out rat poison at parks where.... Not only dogs could eat them but children as well? It's this just a massive lawsuit waiting to happen? |
i'm so sorry for the loss of your granddogs and truly sickened by the story. i am fighting back tears as i type this, i just can't imagine losing my entire furkid family in one fell swoop. this is completely outrageous and i applaud you for taking immediate action.
as Eric said, parks can be very dangerous for pets because of toxins, bacteria from non vaccinated animals and anything humans can leave behind for animals to find. a dog in my local park nearly died just weeks ago from eating some marijuana she found by a park bench. the owner didn't see what her dog had eaten and it was probably such a small bud it wouldn't have been noticed anyway. the blood panel came back with the evidence and the owner warned us all to keep a closer eye on what our dogs are doing when we walk. while you are on the subject of city poisons Lloyd, have you ever seen a city vehicle spraying some kind of weed killer along the roadsides? on my residential street i saw one moving slowly like a street sweeper and spraying something over the grass and dirt surrounding palm trees. Kira's puppy used to love to grab the palm seeds from those areas when he was younger and i had no idea at the time that city vehicles were spraying something on them. i should have tried to find out what that was and move on it like you have with the rat repellent. thanks so much for your post |

This thing has legs. My mother raises show dogs in California and I forwarded the article onto her to share with her colleagues. Last check, it has been shared 211 times on just her Facebook page. Some of the comments too. People are outraged!
|
This is just terrible Lloyd. Very sorry this happened to your daughter's dogs, she must be pretty torn up. I know I would have been if something like this had happened to my old dog back when he was alive. And I'd be pretty pissed.
And it's not just that dogs might eat the stuff. Since it's sprinkled freely like that they can get it on their paws. It may come as a surprise to those that don't know, but dogs lick their paws a lot. Every pet lover should be sharing the shit out of this story on facebook. If this was going on in Winnipeg and people's pets here started dying there would be holy old hell to pay from whomever was responsible for doing it. Heads wold roll at city hall for allowing it. We'll bitch and moan every time our taxes are raised, but dying pets are a whole other matter. You just don't mess with people's pets. |
Those dogs are so gorgeous in the pics I just want to hug them. This story makes me outraged and sad.
