Combination of a few things. I want to become fluent in another language and after spending a decade in the service business in AZ and CA prior to adult, as Spanish was the easiest option. I want to live and travel around Europe for a a few years and the climate.

Valencia seems quite San Diego-esque so far.

I'd go the complete opposite, anywhere but Andalucia.
