Any tips on securing video in my members area?

I've been told that if it can be played, it can be stolen.

I have a member, or more, that is posting new releases the day they are released.

What are some ways to at least more easily identify who they are, or make it more difficult for them to steal?

I'm on Linux and use basic Mod_Auth

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

well, as for stealing part - run camtasia screen rec and record while it plays... cut/edit/upload later :-/

I'd say, if you are so popular, deal with it, watermark them so people know where this stuff came from and eventually check your site out.

As for limiting - you may hit the UE (user experience) if you start restricting them too much...

IMHO.. people always want fresh stuff. So, I'd keep it fresh...add something they can't steal :D (non video) - some community/etc based stuff.

Do you use RTMP on streams?

It won't stop piracy 100%, but it'll at least make it harder and it'll also allow you to save on bandwidth.

Use it to your advantage. This is the best strategy in my humble opinion. How?

Watermark ALL your videos with your watermark in the lower LEFT corner. Many tubes will not allow this so will reject the 'user uploads' but if some sneak through they are both easier to spot (and takedown) AND (the best part) surfers notice it immediately because they're not used to seeing it.

If everyone did this then it would be easy-peezy to regulate piracy while using it as a marketing tool.

"""in the lower LEFT corner.""
Good tip, didn't realize that...

Is your interest in determining the users IDs a serious, as in court action, effort? There are a number of ways you can go about it.

Added: Great advice above from The Porn Nerd also. Most Content producers really should be doing this already.

Nothing can stop a pirate except going after them.
Like they say, if it can be played then it can be stolen.

The editor switches the placement of the watermark at different points in the video. Sometimes he'll put it in an inconspicuous part of the video on a still shot and blend it with the background enough to still be read, but not be intrusive and obvious. Thanks for the tip :thumbsup

I would REALLY like to determine the users ID's. No court action yet. I have a feeling it's one or two users, from my DMCA info it's the same couple user account referral codes used on multiple sites for the same file locker.

Why the lower LEFT corner?

Is this some unwritten rule or is there a standard or technical reason for it?

Please keep your suggestions coming any and all info is appreciated :thumbsup

PornNerd said it's a rule most tubes have because that's reserved for their watermark.
