New post World Cup FIFA World rankings

USA (15th) a deserved 5 places above England (20th)

Imagine if USA took the game seriously?

The full list: http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/rankingtable/

Canada are on page 4 Mutt

Of course the rankings are largely a load of bollocks, (Scotland in 27th as a prime example) but at least they have the number 1 right.

Do you mean Scotland should be higher or lower ??

Feng-PD 07-18-2014 09:55 AM

NL a well deserved #3!

Is there a page 4? ha ha :D

Seriously, Canada is lucky to be there at all. We're competitors, we really need to put together a team that can win more games than lose.

I'm glad USA is finally getting recognized. Hopefully we do well in the next Olympics and World Cup.

a ten place drop? that just shows how useless those ranking are. England played in one of the toughest if not the toughest group and yes, they lost to two teams but two well ranked teams while countries like Greece and the US has much easier groups. one competition equals a 10 place drop? nope!

It is not just gaining points from this competition, but also losing points from 4 years ago. Ranking is the total of 48 months. You can drop even if you score good points current month, just because you lost your points from 49th month before current month.

A quote from some article:

It can be the case that a nation suffers a slump in the rankings even if its most recent results have been favourable. This is usually due to points being factored into a 12 month average, so if the accumulated points within the year haven?t been high, a fall can occur when better results from four years previous are discounted.

I'm wondering how can teams that didnt even qualify for the world cup be above those who did qualify....

No excuse for Canada to be so embarrassingly bad in soccer, soccer fields and leagues all over the place. Surprised Australia is almost as bad.

England ranked 20th - a soccer mad country, the top professional league in the world, why has England become such an also ran?

Much lower. Even Robert the Bruce would struggle to justify them being on the first page.

The only team in that ranking whose position you can't argue with is Germany.

Argentina's position is a nonsense. Are a team that needed an injury time goal to beat 49th place Iran really the second best team in the world?

Was losing to Holland and Chile really enough justification to drop Spain 7 places? I would still back them in a one off match tomorrow against all but Germany of the teams above them.

As for the inventors of the game, I didn't think England deserved to be 11th before the World Cup but the same ranking system that put them there dropped them 10 places as a result of two single goal defeats against higher ranked opponents and a draw against an improving team that also beat the two teams that beat England.

Any ranking system can be picked to pieces but this one just doesn't follow much logic at all in my opinion.

France should be ranked higher.

I thought Australia came out of a tough group with credit and yet they fall 17 places and now sit behind Cape Verde Islands in 76th, with 27 teams that didn't even make the finals between them and second lowest ranking World Cup finalist Iran in 49th.

Bit disheartening if you are the guy trying to sell soccer to your fellow Aussies. Good performance in the World Cup, fall 17 places.

Because we produce players with too little technical skill, and too little football intelligence.

It's partly the fault of the coaches, and partly due to the speed our game is played at.
