U ok ? :Oh crap

aka123 07-19-2014 12:54 PM

Now when I have seen it, I can say it's not my kind of video. Too unscientific and melodramatic.

These videos often fail to grasp the concept that we are animals just like the rest of the living creatures. For example the "killing stuff". Every single animal specie kills, every one, but this document makes it as a bad thing. It's not the killing itself, it's the proportions, like with all the rest of the stuff.

We all kill, even when writing this, because our body constantly kills foreign threats and often even unthreats. Not to mention eating organic matter.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with parasites. They make about a half of all the animal species or something like that.

I agree. You go first and the rest of us will follow.

we're not poisoning the planet. as if! now that's not to say we aren't fucking it up for ourselves.

but earth can and will sort out shit tons of greenhouse gases and plastic bottles for itself. prolly be like a bad meal amongst 4 billion years of eating. earth will get a little gasy, blow out a big fart, sleep it off and be fine.

There is no polite anwer for this one. We are living warmer period between ice ages (interglacial) and dinosaurs sure as hell didn't die because ice age ended.

Good for you. I don't particularly like parasites, but I understand that they are integral part of our ecosystem. Kind of parasites are also a vital part of your immune system.

Are you guys going to save just furry and cute animals, or something like that, and the rest of species are exterminated? In that case I vote that we save chicken wings, I love those. That is specie, right?

Ok, I'm open, fill me in, name 3 ways, hell, name 1 way we're poisoning the planet.

You know I am very anti-pollution and live a lifestyle in line with that so really, fill me in.

Exactly like it's done it for 4.5 billion years, but again, I'm open, please name 1 time the Earth has died. after all the pollution from gigantic volcanos, continent-wide fires, massive asteroids, smashing into another fucking planet, etc.

Earth is the textbook adapt or die example. if there were a wiki page on adapt or die, the picture on that page would be of planet fucking Earth.

Aren't we still in a period of "ice age"?

Wikipedia says ", ice age implies the presence of extensive ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres" which is also defined as the "current ice age" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternary_glaciation).

It's going to get A LOT hotter.

That's what you get when you have 8 billion people on the planet, perhaps you'd like us all to live off the land in teepees.

druid66 07-20-2014 01:44 AM

it's hilarious that ppl think we can destroy planet, i'm not buying any ecology bullshit, in fact i believe ecology movements are invented and pumped into us to keep some more sensitive human beings busy and not think about actual problems that are arouisng around, like being fucked up by politicians, corpos, enslaved by bank system stuff like this, throw to ppl ecology keyword and keep them distracted.

and why i didn't believe in ecology and destroying planet?

10k y ago there was different flora species and different animals, they extinct, their places took another.

example: on the sahara desert there tribe living in almosty unchanged condition since over 10k years, they have not much contact with civilization (well they didn't have for long time, now it's different but still contacts are limited due to hard condition of travelling through sahara) so they have this rock paintings, dated over 10.000 y ago showing different animals, different plants etc.. interesting stuff rly.

guess what?

in next 10k y there will be different plants and different animals, some will stay from our time some will evolve, some extinct so what? for every extinct there will come another one.

and so in next 20k years. you really worried about this?

do you think we will still be here in next 10k years?

i believe this sahara tribe will be but us prob not :P

bottom line is that problem is ppl fucking over other ppl not ppl fucking nature - nature will survive in one way or another.

druid66 07-20-2014 01:54 AM

additionaly, think about this:

it has been proven, calculated that earth have enough resources (every resources, not talking about fossil fuels) to keep every single fucking one human being live in decent conditions, yet in some countries ppl are dying by lack of food and meds and in another food is burned down to keep economy stable?

the whole system is seriously fucked up by us.

There is no question that we are fucking nature over and in return nature is fucking us back.

We pollute the environment buy putting a bunch of toxic shit in the air and in major cites the pollution is so bad you sometimes can't see more than 20 feet in front of your face. That shit is shortening the lives of those that live there.

We put toxic shit into the ground and it seeps into the water and gives people cancer and other ailments and kills them.

We are putting things into the atmosphere that causes the ozone layer to burn up and give some of us skin cancer that kills us.

There is no doubt we are fucking nature over, but in the end nature will win. As I said before the earth was here long before us and it will be here long after us. If we insist on being disgusting pigs and polluting the shit out of the planet our stay here on this earth, as individuals and as a species may be shortened. If we got out shit together and cleaned things up we might last longer.

We are on a interglacial period, I don't know how to say it better. It's not ice age, but it's not total opposit of it either. Let's say that we live warm coolish period between ice ages. And yes, it can get hotter as well as colder.

And still, the dinosaurs didn't die because ice age ended as earth was a lot warmer then and as far as I know, there even wasn't polar ice. And you probably have read about the asteroid.

The "destroying our planet" is a figurative speak, and even more literally that means that we destroy the current ecosystem we and other species live in.

And that (shown in pictures) is what you get when you don't do things right. Living comfortably in a modern house, etc. doesn't require throwing trash around and everywhere. And it doesn't require much of the other negative effects either. Those are result from ignorance.

dead birds are not the earth. smokestacks of shit we spew pale in comparison to the shit a super eruption from a massive volcanic caldera puts out- volcanic ash 5 feet deep over an entire continent with sulfer clouds raining down sulfer rain and gobs of other shit.

all the nuclear explosions we've ever done don't compare to the amount of radiation the Earth gets from the Sun, the galaxy and the universe over 4.6 billion years

plastic pollution has absolutely zero consequence on Earth

oil fires? please, how much oil has burned naturally over 4.5 billion years? Do you realize how much oil is spewing out into the ocean every single second due to cracks and fissures in the ocean floor? metric shit tons, that is how much!

and that's the problem with these sorts of threads, people don't change their personal behaviors due to figurative speaking. they (we) need direct, honest, simple directions. Rhetoric simply does not work for changing people's behaviors.

dyna mo 07-20-2014 07:46 AM

here's a great example highlighting the fact that Earth will be just fine::::

The Permian-Triassic extinction happened about 251 million years ago and was Earths worst mass extinction. 95 percent of all species, 53 percent of marine families, 84 percent of marine genera, and an estimated 70 percent of land species such as plants, insects and vertebrate animals were killed during this catastrophe. Direct evidence for this period has not been found but many scientists believe a comet or asteroid impact led to this extinction. Others think that volcanic eruption, coating large stretches of land with lava from the Siberian Traps, which are centered around the Siberian City of Tura, and related loss of oxygen in the seas were the cause of this mass extinction. Still other scientists suspect that the impact of the comet or asteroid triggered the volcanism.

yep.

the language of climate change is very loosy goosy...just in this thread, human pollution harming animals is called hurting our "earth" when mark really means we are hurting other wildlife.

always lost in climate change & pollution threads is that our overpopulation is the 800 pound gorilla threatening future generations. it does not threaten our earth, it threatens the habitat we live in, & the standard of living for future people.

i just wish the debate could focus on how to stop kardiashians & snookis from breeding at unprecedented rates instead of moving to expensive technologies that wont solve the problem as long as reality TV stars keep multiplying.

:2 cents:

Except for the 70 % species that died. Of course we mammals triumphed after that.

Even if aliens would come and wipe out everything living from Earth, and then occupy Earth, plant own plants and other creatures, the Earth would still be fine, but we wouldn't.

Actually human's actions are more far reaching than just directly affecting to wildlife (every other living thing). We shape also the non-living environment. Might not be "hurting" as it refers to living things those can feel, but anyway shaping the non-living Earth and thus affecting to the conditions for current and future generations of life.

yes i agree. it may be that someday the only elephants & pandas in existence are the ones in zoos. & that our behavior is slowly changing shorelines & the re-organization of habitats in the deep ocean.

bottom line in life is that we have to live with the consequences of what we do. I am certain that humans will adapt to the changes they cause to the earth. so i tend to worry more about the quality of life today & ensuring resources are available for future people.

but carbon taxes & electric vehicles will not change nothing so long as population growth resembles a rocket launch path.
